Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Counselor I to provide direct services within the Palmer Adult Probation Office and various Alaska Department of Corrections institutions in-person and via telehealth. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping individuals facing challenges due to addiction and/or incarceration.
Responsibilities
- Provide Substance Use Disorder assessments utilizing DSM-V and ASAM best practices
- Support clients as they find and engage in the assessed treatment
- Identify and provide referrals that address any barriers to successful re-entry
Requirements
- Ability to acquire Chemical Dependency Counselor I or QAP equivalent certification within 3 years of date of hire
- Ability to pass a drug screening and State of Alaska background check (no felony charges)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in human services or closely related field
- Experience in substance abuse or mental health field including delivering direct therapeutic services, direct service documentation, crisis intervention skills, and peer support or case management planning and clinical team participation
Skills Required
- Ability to build rapport with clients and staff
- Utilize tools such as DSM 5 and ASAM with clients
- Establish and maintain clear therapeutic boundaries
- Work as a team member including accepting and providing supervision
- Work independently while self-directing daily productivity
