Job Summary
The school counselor will assist students in our K-8 school setting as an advocate for the development of the whole child. They will provide direct counseling services that support the academic, social, and emotional developmental needs of the students while bringing a collaborative, solutions-oriented attitude to our team. This work will be data-driven by identifying individual school needs and outcomes in the areas of academics, attendance and behavior.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Provide direct services to students in the areas of child and adolescent development, education strategies, self-management, and social interaction skills to help students in achieving success in school.
- Support students in mentally processing their challenges and/or adjustments to school through goal setting and action planning.
- Contact and stay connected to parents to assist them in the understanding of and constructive participation in their child’s progress.
- Build and maintain comprehensive, school-wide preventative needs programming.
- Consult with other school personnel in gathering and sharing appropriate information, as well as to establish staff roles and responsibilities regarding student needs beyond general academic education.
- Serve as a liaison between home and school in situations concerning, but not limited to, truancy, foster home children, special education services and those with serious social/emotional adjustment difficulties.
- Keep appropriate records of cases for use by school staff members and non-school reporting agencies.
- Prepare and submit timely reports on students referred for evaluation.
- Participate in the Catholic Identity and Mission of Seton Catholic Schools.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills
- School Counselor License or Professional Counselor License required or currently in a certification program.
- Certification or studies focused in Child Development preferred
- Experience counseling in urban and/or diverse communities.
- Deep belief in the potential of all children and the values of Catholic education
- Ability to cultivate a loving and joyful student culture.

- Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills
- Demonstrated ability to operate with a growth mindset and seek opportunities for feedback.
