Summary:
The Medical Care Specialist will coordinate medical appointments and follows up with the medical providers as needed. Maintain inventory of prescribed and over-the counter medications. Also administers and ensures medications are dispensed according to physician’s directives, ORR, Seton Home and TDFPS guidelines. Ensure medical logs and medical reports in client files are accurate, complete and in compliance with licensing and ORR standards.
Minimum of 1-year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting.
Position Responsibilities:
- *Maintain accurate schedule of off campus medical appointments and immunization.
- *Maintain effective knowledge of communicable diseases.
- *Ensure all information provided to residents are in home language of child.
- *Physical and immunizations completed within timeline given.
- *Medication inventory completed on a monthly basis.
- Maintain regular working hours and assist after hours if needed.
- Schedule all on/off campus appointments.
- Inputting information for all requisition of all medical treatment request.
- Transport unaccompanied alien children to any off-campus appointments.
- Assist with transport when needed.
- Other duties as assigned by Program Director, Assistant Program Director or Vice President.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education
High school Diploma or GED
Medical Assistant Certificate Preferred.
- Experience
Preferred 2 years’ experience of progressive employment experience within a social service or child-care agency.
Minimum of 1-year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting.
- License and Credential
Medical Assistant Certificate Preferred.
Reliable transportation.
Valid driver license.
Valid vehicle insurance.
- Submit to a state and federal background check, Child abuse and neglect registry check, and Tuberculosis screening.
- Be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities.
Able to show proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route if working directly with unaccompanied children.
- Varicella: two doses of varicella vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR born in the United States before 1980 with a reported history of chickenpox (verified by an adult present at the time of illness) OR titers indicating varicella immunity OR documentation from healthcare provider verifying previous infection.
- MMR: two doses of MMR vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR titers indicating immunity to all three diseases
- DTaP or DTap: Complete primary vaccination series. If primary vaccination series completed in childhood, one DTaP dose in adulthood.
- Influenza: one dose annually during flu season.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
- Working knowledge of TDFPS Minimum Standards, and Office of Refugee Resettlement- Division of Unaccompanied Children's Services National Care Standards.
- Possess therapeutic sensitivity to the service population cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
- Experience with computer software and MS Office (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneDrive).
- Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team.
- Must have good written and verbal skills.
- Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- *Bilingual: Fluent in English/Spanish with regards to reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the spoken language.
Travel Requirements:
Travel requirements for the position includes 10% local and 10% overnight.
