Nursery Operation Grower & General Manager for Plant Nursery - Valdese, NC 28690

We are a beautiful plant nursery & garden center company based in Western, North Carolina. We are located in Valdese, NC. Less than 1 mile off Interstate 40 Exit 107. We place our employees first. Summary: This is a full time hands on Team Leader, Management & Laborer position. You will accept responsibility for yourself and a team of 6-10 team members for potting plants, trimming and pruning, applying pesticides, weeding, mulching, pulling orders, restocking & moving plants from one area to the next. Operating Skid Steer, and equipment.  Other tasks that are related to nursery & farming will be incorporated. Be prepared for hard work, however this position comes with the ability to grow and educate yourself in how a small business plant nursery is operated with endless opportunities as we grow the company.

Works With: Assistant Grower, Production Team, Garden Center Manager

Reports to: Company President

• 5 Year minimum of Plant Nursery labor experience.

English / Spanish Bi-Lingual - Sign on Bonus.

Basic Qualifications:

-Ability to develop and drive a team, manage daily, weekly, and seasonal projects, effectively delegate tasks and develop processes. 

• Eager to work and up for a challenge

• Knowledge of plants, trees, shrubs, flowers.

• Possess a great level of professionalism and strong communication skills

• Required Experience in nursery, garden center, greenhouse environment

          • Ability to work in a fast paced environment

          • Ability to complete tasks while maintaining order

          • Initiative to work at challenging personal pace without constant direct oversight

• Ability to make fast decisions.

Requirements:

• Bring forth a positive attitude each and every day.

• Ability to communicate about any situation. 

• Saturday availability during peak seasons. Able to come in when emergencies may occur. 

• Opportunity to take on additional hours during peak season

• Must have a NC valid current drivers license & insurable. Access to reliable transportation

• Effective communication skills

• Candidates must be able to stand for long periods of time and be able to carry up to 80 lbs.

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time

• Horticulture Degree

• Live within 30 minutes of the farm. 

Maintenance Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Nursery Operation:

-Developing and delegating staff into roles for best processes daily.  

• Potting, Transplanting & Care of Plants

• Estimating Finishing Times

• Propagation Scheduling & Management

• Operate Skid Steer & Tractor with Trailers

• Light Grading

• Transporting & Loading Soil & Mulch with Skid Steer

• Loading & Unloading large amounts of plant material

• Weeding containers and greenhouses

• Restocking & Pulling Orders

• Trimming & Pruning plants & trees

• IPM - Scouting & Applying pesticides, training will be provided

Must be able to handle any situation, on the farm. 

Maintenance of Nursery:

• Assiting and Delegating:

• Irrigation install & repair

• Installation of new plant pads

• Weedeating & Mowing when needed

• Blowing & Cleaning areas for cleanliness

• Standing up plant material

• Picking up all stakes, tools, etc. that are not in use

• Taking out the trash

• Emptying out of all weed buckets

• Recycling of cardboard (weekly or when needed)

• Maintaining a clean and professional work environment.

• Mulching areas for display.

Compensation:

•Salary based on experience. 75K-100K

•Paid Holidays: News Year Day. July 4th, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day.

•Paid time off begins after 90 days, you will earn 8 hours per every 30 day period.

PTO is to be used after each Quarter earned or Cashed in. You will earn up to 12 PTO days per year.

•One weeks Paid Vacation earned after 1 year of service

  2 Weeks Paid Vacation after 5 Years of service.
