Job Summary:

The Quality Assurance Technician supports quality in standards processes to ensure compliance with Seven Stars Bakery policies and procedures. The technician will assist and work with production and operation teams to enforce, maintain and ensure compliance with regulatory and company Food Safety Code by conducting a wide variety of Quality testing and inspections on daily basis ensuring that the products meet all quality and company food safety standards.

The Quality Assurance Technician will perform the quality assurance functions under the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager and in accordance with Seven Stars Bakery cGMP’s Standards goals and the approved Quality Assurance/Utilization Review (QA/UR) plan.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform daily Food Safety and Quality inspection and report the findings to the management team to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate findings to production and operation team and follow up on agreed corrective actions.
  • Enforce and monitor the Corrective Actions and Preventive Actions (CAPA) taken to address the observations and non-compliance found.
  • Support production and operation teams with selecting and implementing an effective CAPA.
  • Review and file completed policies and procedures records according to company system.
  • Conduct Microbiology testing and submit swabs to the laboratory for testing to ensure compliance with Company and regulatory sanitation and food safety requirements.
  • Calibrate and verify the accuracy of reading for the tools used by production and operation team such as scales, thermometers and others.
  • Conduct ATP and Allergens swabs to ensure compliance with sanitation and microbiology testing procedures.
  • Conducts products testing to ensure products comply with products specifications from taste, texture, appearance and color.
  • Enforce and monitor the Corrective Actions implemented to address the non-compliance.
  • Identify logs for all food safety and safety policies and procedures that are to be completed.
  • When a product/system/area does not perform within specifications, reports defects to the QA Manager while identifying and recommending solutions, improvements, and updates.
  • Records variations on screening sheets and interfaces with staff for follow-up.
  • Participate and ensure the progress of food safety projects and provide an update to the team.
  • Inform QA Manager of any new and/or revised QA regulations.
  • Assists departments with the coordination of audit information and recommends appropriate data-gathering mechanisms, procedures, etc.
  • Conduct training and support the team with implementation and monitoring after training.
  • Attend meetings and contribute to topics to FSQA.
  • Creates a satisfactory working environment with other departments performing quality-assurance duties.
  • Assist the QA Manager with enforcing, maintaining and monitoring policies and procedures implemented.
  • Assists with maintaining, executing, and monitoring a product recall procedure.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of food safety management, cGMP’s standards, FDA regulations for efficient data gathering.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and stay on task.
  • Knowledge of food safety management, computer software/database to support testing, designing, and validating data.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to create test plans and cases from specifications or verbal communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to serve as a liaison with all Production departments, Retail bakery locations, product suppliers, wholesale vendors, and all support team members.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information discovered through the quality assurance program.
  • Conclusive proof of violation of confidentiality will be considered grounds for possible termination.

Education and Experience:

  • Chemistry, Food Science, Biology or experience in a related field preferred.
  • 2 years of related experience required.

Physical Requirements

  • Work requires sitting, standing, and/or walking for periods of up to 8 hours or more, moving and examining objects at high and low reach, and reading for periods of three hours or more.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds at a time.

Work Schedule

This is a non-exempt role with no direct reports.

  • Full time (40 hours/week) – approximately 8 to 10-hour shifts, OT as required by business needs.
  • Availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays are required (the production bakery is 24 hours a day seven days a week).
  • We offer competitive wages and benefits, hourly pay ranging from $18 – $25/hour, commensurate with a candidate’s applicable work experience and education.
