The Custodian I is responsible for supporting the Sevier County Library System by performing routine custodial and cleaning duties at multiple library locations. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Sweeps, vacuums, and/or mops offices, bathrooms, hallways, and common areas on a daily basis. Empties trash cans and removes debris from common areas and library grounds as necessary. Dusts and cleans countertops, windowsills, tables, and other surfaces as needed. Cleans and sanitizes bathroom sinks, commodes, and water fountains daily. Vacuums carpeted rooms and common areas according to established schedules. Stocks bathrooms and storage closets with necessary supplies, equipment, and materials. Moves furniture and strips and waxes floors as needed. Cleans windows, mirrors, and walls when necessary. Picks up debris and sweeps parking areas and sidewalks as needed. Replaces light bulbs and performs other routine maintenance tasks as required. Picks up interoffice mail from the main library and branch libraries, sorts it, and places it in order for distribution. Collects and distributes a variety of supplies and materials required for the efficient operation of the main and branch libraries. Delivers books, periodicals, audiotapes, and other materials according to established schedules and upon request. Loads and delivers office machinery and related equipment to the main library and branch locations as needed. Cleans up spills and addresses unexpected accidents promptly to maintain a safe environment. Assists library staff with setting up and rearranging furniture or equipment for events and programs. Interacts with co-workers, vendors, and the public to provide general assistance. Ensures compliance with safety guidelines and operational procedures related to custodial and maintenance tasks. Reports maintenance issues, supply shortages, or facility concerns to the Library Director for resolution. Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Competencies: Considerable knowledge of Sevier County Library System operational policies and procedures, including the distribution and retrieval of books, periodicals, and other materials. Familiarity with OSHA regulations governing cleaning supplies, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), as well as proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials. Considerable knowledge of state and local traffic laws and major roadways in Sevier County to facilitate the delivery of materials and supplies. Capability to plan daily and weekly tasks, complete assignments efficiently, and assist other staff when necessary. Ability to make timely and appropriate decisions within established operational policies and respond effectively to unexpected situations. Sufficient strength and agility to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
