Under the limited direction of the Battalion Chief, the Lieutenant is responsible for supervising their assigned firefighting companies in fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire prevention, and public education activities. The primary areas of responsibility include overseeing the maintenance of the fire station, equipment, and apparatus, and coordinating the scheduling of personnel, equipment, training, and work activities. This position also involves ensuring that line functions are carried out in accordance with administrative policies. Job performance for this position will be evaluated by the Battalion Chief based on the effectiveness of supervision, the condition and readiness of equipment, adherence to administrative policies, and the overall performance of assigned firefighting companies.

Oversees the daily operations and management of the assigned station(s); implements, interprets, and ensures compliance of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; establishes goals and objectives; maintains employee time and attendance records and certifications; reviews daily and monthly reporting.Manages assigned station inventory of equipment, apparatus and specialty team equipment including inspection and maintenance requirements; oversees fire station building maintenance. Supervises assigned staff including conducting training, prioritizing and assigning work, performance management, employee relations, and related activities; provides mentoring and assists employees with professional development.Assumes initial primary responsibility for overall management, coordination, and safety of emergency scenes; assesses the incident scene, develops a plan of action, and identifies appropriate strategies and tactics; determines the need for additional equipment or manpower; ensures security and integrity of the emergency scene; ensures utilization of the Incident Management System.
