Purpose Statement
The Middle School Emotional Support Aide provides direct assistance to students with emotional challenges, helping them succeed in both academic and social settings. This role involves working closely with teachers, counselors, and other support staff to create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that promotes positive behavior, emotional growth, and academic achievement. This job reports to the Principal.
Essential Functions
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with emotional needs.
- Support students in managing emotions, coping with stress, and developing social skills.
- Reinforce positive behaviors through encouragement and structured interventions.
- Assist teachers in adapting strategies to support students’ emotional and academic needs.
- Monitor students in classrooms, hallways, lunch areas, and other school settings to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and school staff to develop strategies for student success.
- Document student progress, behaviors, and incidents as required.
Other Functions
- Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
