The City of Seward is recruiting for a Seasonal GardnerThis position is responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of City landscaping, including planting and maintaining gardens, flower planters, hanging baskets, etc. Must be able to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
DETAILED WORK DUTIES: Reviews planting schematics, plans and written instructions, plants and cares for gardens and landscape areas according to directions.Uses supplied tester-kits and tools to assess and recommend fertilizers, organic matter and weed products.Uses, cleans, transports, disposes, and stores chemicals, cleaning, and other products according to federal, state, and local requirements.Discerns which plants, trees, shrubs, and flowers thrive best in Seward’s climate and environment.Performs routine cleaning tasks at City parks, including litter pickup, trash bag replacement, sweeping of facilities and cleaning of restrooms and port-a-potties as directed. Provides grounds maintenance and curative enhancement of the City cemetery, may also assist with cleaning cemetery headstones, statues and other items.May perform routine turf maintenance tasks such as hand mowing, trimming, fertilizing, liming, and watering.Performs minor repairs on equipment and tools.Assists with park beautification and set-ups such as picnic tables, benches, bulletin boards and fences.Operates light trucks, power tools and other equipment, maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.May provide input on park-related and/or landscape projects such as purchases of installation of art, interpretive panels and placements, memorial trees, benches, rock gardens, holiday lighting, outdoor welcome banners, solar lighting, etc.Provides friendly customer service and works collaboratively with others to accomplish tasks.Follows safe work practices.Performs related duties as assigned.
