Deli Counter Re-Buyer/Shift Lead
PURPOSE: To ensure efficient work flow in the Cheese sub -department as well as across the deli counter; including juice bar, coffee bar; effectively address any ordering/credit/return needs that arise; to provide and train other staff with excellent customer service; to assist with creation of production lists; and to assist in the achievement of departmental goals.
Status: Reports to Deli Manager
Pay Level: IV
Union wage scale $21.40 - $22.90 per hour based on previous years of experience.
Responsibilities:
CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Provide attentive and courteous customer service.
- Greet each customer who enters the department.
- Maintain cheese, olive and cracker displays to look full, abundant, fully faced and attractive.
- Promote cheese through attractive signage, written articles, customer service and sampling.
- Maintain case displays – cheese, grab n go, and bakery
- Keep all counter aspects neat and clean
- Sample deli items
- Make juices, smoothies, and sandwiches quickly and efficiently
CUTTING, WRAPPING, AND STOCKING
- Cut, wrap, and label cheese to keep cases full and attractive, with a focus on keeping top selling products well stocked.
- Stock prepack and back stock products to maintain full cheese cases.
- Face and straighten regularly.
- Rotate product and remove out of date and substandard product from cheese cases.
- Face all cases, including grab-n-go, bakery and cheese
- Put away orders as necessary
- Label paper and plastic items as needed
- Organize as needed
- Pack and face Grab & Go items and bakery items
- Prep Juice Bar items.
BUYING AND RECEIVING
- Purchase product from vendors in accordance with department practices and procedures.
- Receive and put away orders following established procedures.
- Communicate with delivery persons and vendors regarding returns of substandard product.
- Track all credit requests.
- Manage Shrink and Logs
- Follow the gift policy when receiving vendor samples.
- Place and put away orders as needed.
LEADERSHIP
- Assign duties to staff (.i.e., packing olives, cutting cheese, cleaning)
- Take part in Department meetings
- Provide input and feedback to the Deli Managers regarding staff’s performance.
- Train all new staff
MERCHANDISING
- Sign making
- Take leadership in the department with regard to merchandising and resets as set by the Fresh Foods Merchandising Coordinator.
- Implement resets, promotions, and specials as directed by the Fresh Foods Merchandising Coordinator.
- Communicate with staff regarding promotions, new products, and out of stock items
- Respond to needs that arise in a prompt manner.
- Coordinate Demo items each month, communicate with the demo coordinator and FFMC.
- Assist in achievement of department goals
- Respond to “Service Team” calls
OTHER DUTIES
- Follow safe food handling guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in department.
- Train new staff and model excellent customer service skills for all staff.
- Participate in departmental merchandising activities, and storewide meetings and trainings.
- Wash hands routinely, frequently and properly to ensure the safety of our products per Seward Co-ops Hand Washing Policy.
- Participate in quarterly departmental inventories, cleaning and other projects.
- Other tasks as assigned by Assistant Deli Manager-Counter and Deli Manager.
- Respond to “Service Team” calls.
- Assist in achievement of department goals.
- Lead cheese department in meeting margin goals
- Communicate and document necessary information regarding Deli operations.
- Communicate often and effectively with kitchen.
- Complete tasks and special projects assigned by Deli Counter Supervisor and Deli Manager.
- Act as floor warden when necessary.
Qualifications:
Essential
· Self-motivated, organized, responsible, flexible
· Regular, predictable attendance
· Interest in and knowledge of cheese, including domestic artisan, imported, organic, and local cheese.
· Ability to work well in a team to achieve departmental goals
· Able to prioritize department’s daily workflow
· Ability to lead staff daily by creating work lists, offering support and feedback
· English proficiency
Functional
· Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift
· Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds. Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
· Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
· Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors, etc.)
· Ability to operate equipment such as: cheese cutter, shrink wrap machine, manual and/or electric scales.
· Ability to freely access all areas of the store including offices, sales floor, back stock areas, and walk-in coolers and freezers.
· Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 50 pounds.
Preferred
· Multi-lingual a plus
· Demonstrated ability to work with customers and co-workers from various cultural backgrounds
· High degree of Cheese knowledge
· Supervisory experience
