Summer Medical Support (RN, LPN, or CMA) 

Assignment Dates: May 1 – August 31st, 2025. 

Wage Dependent on Qualification: 

  • CMA: $25-$30/hr
  • LPN: $30-$35/hr
  • RN: $45-$50/hr

Seward Community Health Center (SCHC) is seeking a seasonal/locum Medical Support position to help staff a team of three at our Mobile Clinic in beautiful Seward, Alaska. We will consider RN, LPN, or CMA qualifications for this role.
 

No two days will be the same if you take this opportunity of a lifetime. You’ll spend 40 hours a week working at our brand new Mobile Clinic and serving acute care needs from some of the 250,000 visitors that come to see Seward each Summer. Whether it’s assessing allergies or removing the odd fish hook, no two days will be the same. 

 

In your free time (no on-call hours here!) explore all Seward and Alaska has to offer. Camping, kayaking, pickle ball, boating, fishing, hiking, biking and 4-wheeling are just a few of the adventures to be had. Hiking trails are everywhere and we’re located next to Exit Glacier and Kenai National Fjords Park. 

 
Hours are set to meet the needs of the community, tentatively Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, four days of 10 hour shifts, may include holidays. 

 

Additional benefits include a $800/month housing and travel allowance, and a $1500 end of season bonus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (to the level of your qualification): As part of the medical team 

  • Provide urgent/walk-in care, including rooming, pre-screening, and meeting with patients
  • Assist in assessing, diagnosing and treating acute illnesses 
  • Assist in helping patients manage the symptoms of chronic health problems on their travels
  • Carry out basic primary medical care procedures as appropriate
  • Follow the treatment plan and assist with appropriate follow-up
  • Refer to specialists as needed , or effectively transfer referral to Clinic
  • Educate patients about the diagnosis, treatment plan, and preventive policies and procedures  as appropriate
  • Participate in community outreach and education efforts as requested 
  • Communicate pertinent patient information to other members of the care team as needed, including referring them to the Clinic or Urgent Care if further needs are established 
  • Obtain informed consent for all procedures 
  • Document patient visit appropriately in electronic health record (EHR) - Epic Ambulatory
  • Maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA requirements 
  • Maintain the order, cleanliness, and stock of the mobile clinic as part of the team
  • Perform other related duties including working at the Main Health Clinic, as assigned

 

Qualifications: 

  • Relevant Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree, Certified Training Program accepted for CMA candidates
  • Professional and current Alaska license at time of offer

 

Additional Qualifications: 

  • Strongly Preferred:  Active enrollment with Commercial Payers, Medicaid & Medicare, as appropriate
  • Must be in good standing with national and/or state professional organizations with current continuing education requirements and professional licensure.  
  • Two years minimum working experience in a primary care or urgent care setting with rural, community health center and/or underserved clinical environment preferred.  
  • Current DEA license required (or in application process at time of hire). 
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS, PALS and ATLS certification preferred.

  • Knowledgeable about and proficient in using appropriate coding and billing techniques as required by SCHC, third party payers and clearinghouses and governmental agencies 
  • Ability to work independently and use good judgment in prioritizing work demands and managing time in a busy practice environment 
  • Ability follow SCHC policies, procedures and directives from the Medical Director
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively using verbal, written and electronic formats
