Job Summary:
The Sheriff Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment within the Sheriff's Department including the Jail. This role includes performing preventive maintenance tasks, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring all systems are functioning properly to support the operations of the department. The individual selected for this position will work alongside the current Maintenance employee for a period of up to one year to receive hands-on training and gain a comprehensive understanding of the role, with the intent of fully taking over the position upon completion of the training period.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in maintenance or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience in maintenance and repair work, particularly in a law enforcement or public safety setting.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and other building systems.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good physical condition to perform manual labor and lift heavy objects if needed.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Candidates must be able to pass a background check and must not have any criminal history in order to work within the secure areas of the Sheriff's Office.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections of Sheriff's Office facilities and equipment to identify maintenance needs.
- Perform repairs on plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other systems as needed.
- Complete preventive maintenance tasks to ensure equipment functions properly.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance work, repairs, and inspections.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
- Follow safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
