POSITION OVERVIEW: Are you creative, engaging, in-tune with youth, and able to shift priorities in response to capacity and community needs? You will support SARSSM’s prevention education efforts in primary and secondary schools as well as university settings across Cumberland and York Counties. You will also have the opportunity to interface with youth serving professionals and community members. A number of duties associated with this role require frequent local travel and occasional long distance travel. As part of the Preventionist team this position is grant funded and reports to the Prevention & Education Program Manager.
HELPLINE
All SARSSM employees are Advocates. Staff are required to provide on-call coverage for the 24-hour crisis & support Helpline. Helpline duties include providing empathetic, validating, non-judgmental support & Advocacy in person and/or by telephone. Accompaniments are served in local hospitals, police departments & courthouses as needed. Folks are assigned shifts, on a rotation, with frequency of shifts dictated by staffing levels. SARSSM fully trains folks to fulfill these duties. Additional on-call pay rates apply.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provide technical assistance, support, and training to local educators and schools.
- Serve as a point of contact for school partners in York and Cumberland Counties, and foster reliable, positive, collaborative work relationships with them.
With the Program Manager, maintain, update, & expand SARSSM curricula, learning materials, & online Educator Toolkit aligned with trends, mandates & education standards. As part of a team, develop and facilitate training and professional development opportunities for educators to promote SARSSM Prevention Education offerings.
- Develop engaging materials including outreach materials, classroom tools, & social media.
- Provide graduate level training to students in the university system.
- Assist in the development & implementation of student engagement opportunities, in alignment with program goals and priorities.
- Conduct accurate data collection, record keeping and reporting processes.

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for success in this position. Degree in human services, social work, education, or other related fields, with one (1) year of work experience in these fields preferred.
- Familiarity with public health approaches and best practice in prevention education
- Experience in youth centered curricula & content development.
- Prior experience in education, working with youth, sexual violence prevention, or familiarity in the impacts of trauma on children.
- Strong facilitation skills and experience with public speaking.
- Knowledge of issues related to social and economic justice, systemic racism, and oppression, and how these issues impact the lived experiences of youth.
- Ability to maintain strong boundaries.
- Strong time management, project management, and organizational skills.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Successfully complete a 40-hour sexual assault advocate training, mandated reporter, & a 10-hour support group facilitator training within specified timeframe.
Access to reliable transportation with applicable insurance. Current, valid driver’s license or State ID.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills with fluency in English. Knowledge of other languages is an advantage.
- Technical competency in Google Suites, Zoom, Microsoft office, Canva, Client Management Systems
- Participate in agency events, including special events, outreach/awareness and donor engagement events.
- Frequent local travel, with regular on-call evening & weekend shifts as necessary in order to accomplish job responsibilities.
- Employment is conditional upon successful clearance of background screening including Child Abuse Registry, Maine Criminal and Federal Fingerprinting, and SARSSM probationary period.
