Under general supervision, conducts professional-level work in clinical psychology; carries out psychodiagnostic examinations and psychotherapy of persons with emotional disturbance, mental illness, substance use disorders, and developmentally delayed children and adults; prepares psychological reports; provides psychological consultation services and participates in psychological research.

The 2574 Clinical Psychologist performs essential functions that include :

Provides direct clinical services within the scope of clinical psychology, including conducting clinical evaluations of children and adults, providing individual and group psychotherapy and counseling; preparing clinical psychological reports presenting diagnostic findings, interview findings, assessments, and recommendations for treatment and rehabilitation.

Selects, administers, scores, and interprets appropriate psychological tests and conducts diagnostic clinical interviews to assess conditions and assist in achieving recovery goals; participates in psychological research.

Reviews and evaluates social agency, school, and court records; consults with social workers, public health nurses, teachers, probation officers, judges, physicians, and rehabilitative staff regarding cases under diagnosis and treatment.

Provides education, consultation, and information to community groups on mental health challenges and culturally relevant services.

Supervises psychology interns and subordinate clinical staff; conducts staff training programs.

Participates in the planning, development, and execution of psychology training internships under supervision.

Minimum Qualification

Possession of a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology as defined in Chapter 6.6 of the Business and Professions Code; Psychologist Licensing Law, Sections 2900-2903, 2914.

Some positions may require additional qualifications, e.g.,

Six (6) months of post-graduate level psychological testing and reporting experience

Twelve (12) months of clinical experience with children

Some positions may require bilingual fluency depending on departmental needs.

SELECTION PROCEDURES

Training and Experience Examination : (Weight 100%)

This examination is a required part of the application and measures knowledge, skills, and abilities in job-related areas, including :

Knowledge of clinical psychology principles and psychotherapeutic methods applicable to children and adults.

Ability to effectively carry out evidence-based practices and prepare professional case reports.

Ability to communicate effectively and provide culturally sensitive services.

Once submitted, applicant responses on the exam cannot be changed. Applicants who achieve a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order.

Certification

The certification rule for the eligible list will be the Rule of List.

Eligible List / Score Report :

Once you pass the exam, you will be placed on an eligible list for a maximum period of 12 months . Candidates may re-apply after expiration.
