Lifeguard - Camp Mather 2025 (outside of San Francisco) (3208 TEX As-Needed)
Choose your favorite summer recreation and you will find it at Camp Mather in the High Sierra/Yosemite Valley. In a setting unparalleled in the West, you can work at one of the premier family camps with a wide variety of activities available at SF’s own vacation land.
We need Lifeguards to lead exciting outdoor activities in this locale of spectacular beauty. You can lead recreation activities of all types and for all ages, campfires, camp talent show, and our very own new experiential ropes course. Experienced rope course leaders are especially desirable.
Crystal clear lakes, surging streams and quiet mountain forests surround Mather and offer unlimited recreation to visitors. Help us create fun-filled days followed by entertaining nights of dances, campfire songs, skits and games for SF camp patrons. Room and board (excellent dining) included. Note that everyone, regardless of job title, will be expected to pitch in on all assignments whenever necessary.
From dusk to dawn, help us create memories that will last a lifetime and through the generations while slowing down the quickened pace of modern life. Campfire entertainment, sport activities, supervised recreation programs for children, fine dining, all are yours in exchange for your working with us this summer up at Camp Mather!
Compensation: $25.7375 /per hour Room and Board (this includes all meals and dorm style housing)
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicant must be aged 18 or older at the time of hire due to the dorm living arrangements.
Experience:
Two (200) hundred hours of experience as a paid or volunteer lifeguard.
License and Certification:
Current possession and maintenance of the following certifications or the equivalent of:
- Lifeguarding issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent certified issuing agency;
- CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent certified issuing agency;
- Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent certified issuing agency; and
- Title 22 - First Aid for Public Safety Personnel issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent certified issuing agency.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- All employees must keep current his/her valid Lifeguard Training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer / Automated External Defibrillator (CPRFPR/AED) and First Aid certifications throughout his/her length of employment. Failure to demonstrate/show proof of current/valid certification may result in termination of employment.
- New hires must possess the following certifications issued by the American Red Cross and maintain validity of these certificates throughout length of employment: First Aid for Public Safety Personnel in accordance with Title 22 requirements; AND Oxygen Administration. Failure to maintain valid certifications throughout length of employment may result in termination of employment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Waterfront Certificate issued by Red Cross or equivalent agency
- Possession of a valid California (Class C) driver's license (Copy of a driver's license and/or DMV history record must be submitted upon verification request)
- ServSafe Certificate or California Food Handler Card
- AED certification
- Citizen or Neighborhood Emergency Response Team Training
- Ability to work with and live around coworkers and guests, of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form
- Good physical condition and ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to maintain a neat and clean appearance at all times
- Ability to provide great customer service to guests in a friendly and helpful manner

Appointment Type: This position is a temporary exempt (TEX), as-needed appointment. This position is seasonal and will not result in an eligible list for a permanent civil service position. Employees serve at the will of the Appointing Officer.
This position does not have any City health or retirement benefits since it is temporary in nature.
