Mid-Iowa Grain Inspection, Inc. is a USDA/F.G.I.S Officially Designated Grain Inspection & Weighing Agency. We offer quality analysis, sampling, microbiological testing and certification services throughout the Midwest to customers involved in the growing, marketing and processing of grain and grain products. We pride ourselves in providing professional unbiased and accurate results across the spectrum of grain and grain products. We presently offer services from seven locations in Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota, as well as grain byproduct testing and analysis at Mid-Iowa Labs in Elwood, Illinois.
Mid-Iowa Labs is an independent third party laboratory specializing in the needs of the exporter, utilizing A.O.A.C., Near Infrared Technology, and G.A.F.T.A. approved methods to provide the criteria required for exportation.
Job Description
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The position of a Technician will include duties as applicable, but not limited to the following; all applicable duties of a Sampler; maintaining representative samples; keeping detailed and legible work records; the ability to identify unusual conditions; and the proper use of equipment and procedures in accordance with the United States Department of Agriculture standards and Mid-Iowa Grain Inspections SOP's.
In addition, as applicable, must be able to oversee and identify proper and improper sampling process and procedures. Other duties may be required at location management discretion.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- At all times complies with Mid-Iowa Grain Inspection Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct
- Perform all sampling functions as outlined in the sampler's job description
- Ensuring duties are carried out in compliance with USDA/FGIS protocols and standards while taking into consideration customer safety and sampling site requirements
- Produce official records
- Be required to pass all applicable exams to perform necessary functions
- Where applicable: be able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly, sit or stand for long periods of time; work at elevated heights; perform repetitive tasks, and be capable of working in dusty environments
- Where applicable: able to start 1st shift as early as 5:00 a.m., with 2nd shift starting as late as posted hours; on call, as needed position; Monday-Friday core hours; with weekend hours when applicable
- Direct reports include: Location manager, and/or inspector-in-charge, where applicable
- Location Management will provide study materials and adequate training
- May require some travel to different locations within the company

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

WORK SCHEDULE:
• Hours vary per location and customers daily needs requiring incumbent to have a flexible schedule, including holiday’s and weekend. Hours generally start around 5am and end between 6 pm and 8 pm with multiple shifts.

• Longer hours, evenings and/or weekend work will be necessary as job duties and customers’ needs demand.
• Position requires occasional overtime
