We are seeking a high-energy, results-driven Telecom Engineer with a proven track record in delivering quality projects ideally in industrial settings or adjacent verticals. You will work closely with the engineering and other technical teams to deliver customized solutions that add value to our clients.
General Responsibilities & Duties
- Leading and participating in design activities on various telecom systems for our customers.
- Writing detailed system functional narratives/descriptions and design specifications.
- Providing direction and guidance on system design and specification as per customers’ engineering practice requirements, relevant codes and standards, and standard engineering best practices.
- Working collaboratively within SGV’s engineering team and with our customers, including other engineers/designers, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) specialists, project managers, and others.
- Directing design and coordinating with CAD specialists to develop design packages including telecommunications systems block diagrams, communications rack/cabinet elevations, wiring diagrams, system floor plans and layouts, installation details, etc.
- Bill of Materials (BOM) development, reviews, and procurement support, as required.
- Leading development of construction/installation work packages.
- Developing and testing equipment configurations.
- Field verification of system installations.
- Other related tasks, as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- 2-10 years as a Telecom Systems Engineer or Technical Designer.
- An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering, network systems, or related technical field is preferred.
- Experience with:
- Outside Plant (OSP) Communications Cabling, including OPGW.
- Inside Plant (ISP) Communications Cabling.
- Transport and access networks including TCP/IP, MPLS, SONET, DWDM, Microwave, etc.
- Experience with other telecom and networks systems, such as Nokia, is an asset.
- AC and DC power systems.
- Radio and Microwave design tools.
- Experience with design and planning software tools such as ConnectMaster, OSPInsight, etc. is preferred.
- Experience with telecom design for power substations, power generation sites, RF communications sites, and industrial sites, etc. is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills to clearly communicate design details and criteria, project plans, etc. to others inside SGV and our customer’s organization.
- Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in the state of Texas, Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration, or successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is a plus.
- The ability to work independently under minimal supervision along with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Willingness and desire to work collaboratively, mentor and to share information to help others – both inside and outside of the engineering group.
