Description
Reporting to the Director of Facilities and working as part of a team, the Grounds Staff will maintain the grounds of the Academy property and related facilities in a clean, safe and attractive condition.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Cut grass and trim trees and hedges
- Set-ups (all events) testing, dances, Homecoming
- Snow removal on roads, sidewalks, steps to all Academy school buildings
Requirements

- EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma with trade certification or completion of an apprenticeship program. Significant previous work experience may be considered in lieu of trade certification or apprenticeship.
- CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Pa State Pesticide licenses. Must successfully complete state-required clearances and training in regard to the prevention and reporting of child abuse.
- LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routing reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups or employees of the Academy.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concept of basic algebra and geometry.
- REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the Academy community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to drive between Academy
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works indoors and outdoors as the task requires. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, spray, and non household dust. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Frequently the employee will work alone or with coworkers and work irregular or extended hours.
The noise level in this position varies from quiet to loud.

It is essential that the employee have the ability to hear and speak in order to communicate effectively with the students, faculty and others. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk. The employee also must be able to tell where a sound is coming from and hear in a noisy environment in order to provide effective guidance. Specific vision abilities are required and these include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision. The employee must have the physical dexterity to operate equipment. The employee must be mobile, so as to move about the Academy premises. Occasionally, yet essential to this position, the individual must meet deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with the public and other workers.
The employee must be able to perform the following physical tasks:
- Lift or carry equipment, supplies or bulk materials up to 100 pounds
- Carry, lift, stand or walk with repetitive use of hands to manipulate
- Assemble scaffolding and climb heights of up to forty feet
- Use stepladder and access school roofs for repairs in inclement weather
- Work beneath buildings to correct plumbing/heating problems
- Operate a truck, snow plow and salt spreader
- Use trenching/compacting equipment
- Use power tools
Occasionally, the position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours, meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
