Position Summary:
The Graphic Design Coordinator at SVPH creates visual concepts on a variety of platforms to support the organization’s marketing plan and daily operations. The Graphic Design Coordinator’s goal is to engage audiences through imagery and visual design showcasing all aspects of the Village. Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite and other design platforms is required, as well as experience designing for print, web, social media and digital platforms. Applicant must have a good eye for design, adhere to brand standards, be comfortable coordinating multiple projects while meeting deadlines, and be able to set priorities and work independently. The Graphic Design Coordinator is expected to demonstrate initiative, mature judgment and collaborate with multiple departments.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a strong understanding of the organization’s overall marketing strategy and implementation plan, ensuring that all design work aligns with and supports this strategy.
- Partner with all departments to support the creation of requested print materials, digital content and other graphic design needs in a timely manner, ensuring consistency with the SVPH story and brand.
- Provide consistent review, updates, high quality design and functionality needs for digital media, including: Shaker Village website, interactive screens, mobile apps, email campaigns, blogs, etc.
- Partner with the Marketing Content Coordinator for design needs on Shaker Village’s social media platforms to connect the public to impactful stories, offerings and events.
- Partner with museum staff to provide graphic support for the development of exhibition materials, including interpretive panels, object labels and image layouts.
- Partner with retail staff to provide graphic design as needed for merchandise and design support for online sales.
- Work with the Chief Marketing Officer on print and digital advertisement design for social media and SEM campaigns.
- Support onsite events through the development of signage, programs, art installations and other design features.
- Work with all departments for design-related needs by scheduling creative concepting meetings to develop brochures, invitations, emails, counter signage, menus, event agendas/programs, swag items, sales materials, etc. Prioritize and manage all design needs through a project management system to ensure all deadlines are met.
- Assist the SVPH management team in providing a consistent, professional presentation for internal documents, presentations and policies by creating and sharing templates and providing training for staff members on usage as needed.
- Ensure all work meets the Shaker Village brand guidelines both visually and in our written voice.
- Analyze web, digital advertising, retail sales and social media metrics and insights to optimize content performance.
- Tap into design trends that can be applied to the Shaker Village brand and propose design-related strategies to the Chief Marketing Officer.
- Secure competitive quotes, assist in vendor selection process and manage outside creative services as necessary.
- Attend signature and special events that take place on planned weekends and some evenings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Flexibility in the workplace, with comfort at the computer and in the field.
- Creative thinker, with a keen eye for visual aesthetics and ability to see the big picture, make connections and be proactive.
- Skilled in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe CS and Canva.
- HTML experience preferred.
- Skilled at using social media platforms and understanding of platform algorithms.
- Ability to multi-task. Comfortable at adapting to changing priorities.
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines without compromising consistency in the process.
- Willingness to learn, study and become knowledgeable about all Shaker Village activities, amenities and guest experiences, as well as the basic history of the site.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which includes some evenings and weekends.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in design, digital media or related field required.
- Minimum two years of graphic design (or related field) experience.
- Portfolio must include both digital and print work.
Mental and Physical Requirements:
- Ability to maintain concentration with constant time pressures while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to maintain visual attention for considerable lengths of time.
- Ability to sit and stand for considerable lengths of time at times in confined spaces and close proximity to other employees.
- Ability to operate computers and general office equipment.
