Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill (SVPH) is on a mission to inspire generations through DISCOVERY, by sharing the legacies of the Kentucky Shakers. Home to the third largest Shaker community in the United States from 1805 until 1910, SVPH manages the country's largest private collection of original 19th century buildings and is the largest National Historic Landmark in Kentucky. Onsite amenities at SVPH include overnight accommodations, dining and catering services, retail shops, event and meeting venues, historical exhibitions and tours, farm and garden area, nature preserve, multi-use trail system, equestrian stable and an extensive calendar of special programs, activities and events.
Position Summary
The Inn Manager oversees the day-to-day operation of a 72 room Inn located in thirteen different historic buildings throughout Shaker Village. The Inn Manager is responsible for the overall success of the Inn, meeting and exceeding planned objectives for revenues, profit, and guest satisfaction. By upholding quality standards, this will achieve an atmosphere of superior hospitality and guest satisfaction.
The Inn Manager will be an integral member of the Shaker Village team by working closely with the VP of Hospitality Services. The Inn Manager will set high standards for the Housekeeping and Public Spaces teams, provide consistent hospitality training for the Guest Services staff, and achieve occupancy goals for the Inn through packages, marketing and sales goals.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Strategic management of the Inn operations and staff including Guest Services, Housekeeping, Public Spaces staff.
  • Willingness to learn, study and become proficient in giving accurate information regarding the mission of Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill to guests and staff.
  • Leads initiatives for the Inn to leverage market trends to increase revenue and reduce expenses.
  • Works with the VP of Hospitality Services to create a yearly budget for the Inn and manages the budget to ensure revenue and expenditures remain on course to create achieve financial goals.
  • Completes schedules for the Guest Services, Housekeeping, and Public Spaces teams in a timely manner, providing adequate and efficient coverage to achieve goals.
  • Supervises and trains Guest Services staff to include prioritizing, organizing, and scheduling work assignments within the Welcome Center.
  • Attends weekly event planning (BEO) meetings.
  • Meets weekly with both the Housekeeping Team and the Guest Services team to create weekly goals, events, and priorities.
  • Works with team managers within each department, to complete the required ordering of supplies.
  • Uses constructive feedback and coaching with employees and supervisors on a consistent basis.
  • Works with the Accounting department to process invoices according to SVPH procedures.
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources department, recruits and trains employees for all Inn positions.
  • Works with the Event Sales team to ensure Inn employees are aware of upcoming events requiring room blocks and event setup.
  • Along with the VP of Hospitality Services, provides added amenities for VIP’s and guest celebrating special events.
  • Identifies maintenance needs and works with the Buildings and Grounds Director to address those concerns.
  • Ensures that all Inn staff achieve and exceed guest service expectations.
  • Takes a proactive approach when dealing with guest concerns.
  • Leads by example, demonstrating self-confidence, energy and genuine hospitality.
  • Through excellent attention to detail, supports the standards of the Inn through coaching, providing feedback and training to employees.
  • Creates overnight packages that reflect trends while also adhering to the mission of SVPH, leveraging standing experiences and maintaining profit.
  • Identifies rate development plans for the Inn each year to ensure SVPH experiences are priced for value.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organization.

  • The ability to create and implement training materials through effective writing and communication skills.
  • Commitment to learn, study and become proficient in giving accurate information regarding the mission of Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill to guests and staff.
  • Ability to professionally and effectively correspond with clients, vendors, and staff through email, phone, virtual and in person.
  • Create interpersonal relationships which encourage openness and trust of the staff and guests.
  • Will be self-motivated to meet deadlines, work under pressure and respond to situations quickly.
  • Maintains a professional appearance to staff and guests.
Working Environment and Conditions:
  • The position involves walking to and from various buildings during different weather conditions.
  • Ability to sit and stand for at times, considerable lengths of time.
  • The position involves working non-traditional hours and being available outside of work.
Education, Experience and Training:
  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years working in the hospitality industry.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience managing and leading others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products along with hotel booking software.
  • Experience creating a budget, procurement, inventory, and ordering required.
