Job Overview
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for managing the business and financial services to support the tribal mission and vision while aligning with the SMSC's Business Council objectives.
The CFO will be a key strategic partner, overseeing the company's financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting, as well as driving operational and financial performance to support the tribe's growth objectives.
- Ensure the tribe derives maximum benefits from the expenditure of tribal financial resources.
- Provide information and serve as a resource to others.
- Achieve defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines.
- Serve as a member of the Business Council leadership team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the SMSC's entire financial reporting portfolio, supporting business & economic development objectives with detailed forecasting, and establishing strong interpersonal & trusting working relationships with the SMSC Business Council and SMSC General Council members.

Requirements
We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional with the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance or related field.
- Master's degree and/or CPA strongly preferred.
- 15 years of experience in progressively responsible professional accounting experience, preferably in tribal government, government business administration, finance, accounting or related field; with progressive leadership experience.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in managing an organization's IPS and investment portfolio, focusing on investment strategy, asset allocation, and performance monitoring.
- Ability to manage cash flow planning process and ensuring funds availability.
- Experience exploring new investment opportunities and provide recommendations on potential returns and risks.
- Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, GASB, FASB, and other laws and regulations pertaining to financial accounting.
- Experience with large-scale, transformational, and/or process improvement initiatives.
- Strong understanding of process improvement methodology.
- Working knowledge of budget preparation and analysis.
- Ability to manage the organization's IPS and investment portfolio, focusing on investment strategy, asset allocation, and performance monitoring.
- Experience in managing cash flow planning process and ensuring funds availability.
- Knowledge and experience in a computerized environment.
- Experience in the implementation of financial/ERP systems in a complex environment.
