Organization Overview: Shakori Hills Community Arts Center (SHCAC) is a North Carolina based non-profit organization that began out of love for and operation of the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival (SHGRF). Now two decades later, SHCAC has become more than a co-hosting organization for the festival – it’s a dynamic organization with its own programs and community, including Hoppin’ John Fiddlers’ Convention, Roots in the Schools, and workshops. We also occasionally partner with local organizations as a venue to host their events.
Job Position: Event Coordinator/Facility Manager
Reports to: Board of Directors and/or SHCAC Director
Position Overview: The Event Coordinator/Facility Manager is a year-round, salaried position averaging 30 to 35 hours per week. Your schedule will be much heavier in “season” (approximately March - October) and lighter in the off-season. Event Coordinator/Facility Manager is best filled by someone with event coordination skills and experience plus a background in facility and/or grounds management with additional skills such as mechanical ability, carpentry or forestry. Their leadership and verbal communication skills are complemented by the ability to navigate interpersonal relationships, take initiative, and self-direct.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Coordinate Shakori Hills Community Arts Center events, concerts and festivals.
- Maintain all physical structures on the property to ensure public safety and commercial operability.
- Act as a team leader and team member to strategize and implement setup for all events.
- Manage onsite personnel work flows and budget.
- Oversee outside site rental contracting and coordination of event oversite staffing.
- Communicate and work with SHCAC Program Coordinator and rental event (licensee) staff in grounds preparation and infrastructure for all rental events, including licensee’s adherence to the event’s setup schedule and site plan, adherence to noise ordinance and grounds protection, event breakdown and all contractual requirements.
- Ensure an on-site presence during SHCAC and rental events. This involves being present or contracting withoversite personnel to make sure a site person is present at all times during events.
- Work with volunteers and other onsite personnel to oversee grounds maintenance and ensure the property is maintained and looking neat and clean.
- Oversee the maintenance of woods and campgrounds and the removal of dead trees and other potential safety hazards.
- Implement site beautification projects.
- Have active responsibility in the oversight of construction of any structures on the property, (depending on experience and background in collaborative design, budgeting, scheduling work, doing work, etc).
- Address off-season site security needs.
- Keep a working knowledge of SHCAC inventory and maintenance of shared resources.
- Communicate with SHCAC Board site committee and/or SHCAC Director to create and implement regular punch lists.
- Attend monthly board meetings as requested.
Desired Qualifications:
- Self-starter with leadership skills and the ability to identify what needs to be done and to take responsibility for appropriate action.
- Community-minded and friendly with a positive attitude and outlook.
- Detail-oriented with ability to see the overall picture.
- Knowledge and experience in machine maintenance, grounds upkeep, carpentry, plumbing and electrical experience is a plus.
- Able to be physically active for extended periods of time and lift at least 40 lbs.
Compensation:
- Commensurate with experience and skills, salaried equivalent (range) of $25-$30/hour.
