Residential Support Worker II / PSS / Float

Shalom House
Portland, ME Full Time
POSTED ON 3/26/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/13/2025

As a Residential Support Worker II/PSS/Float, you will provide vital assistance to residents experiencing severe and prolonged mental illness, helping them live safely and independently. Your role includes both direct care (helping with daily living activities and promoting independence) and maintaining the physical environment of the facility. You will work collaboratively within our team to ensure the safety and well-being of residents while also supporting their individual treatment plans.

This position requires a warm, compassionate approach, strong skills in one-on-one interviewing, supportive counseling, group facilitation, community outreach, and the ability to produce clear written documentation. You will also utilize a team-based approach to deliver high-quality care.

As a flexible and cross-trained position, you will primarily serve as a Residential Support Worker; however, when a resident requires temporary Personal Support Services (PSS) after surgery or illness, you will step into this role to provide the necessary acute personal care support. This adaptability is crucial to meeting the dynamic needs of our residents and ensuring their holistic well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct Service: Assist residents with activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, grooming, dressing) when needed, transport residents to appointments, provide medication management, and offer emotional support in times of crisis.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work with community services, other providers, and family members to ensure the highest level of care for our residents.
  • Clinical Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of residents’ progress, treatment plans, and medication supervision.
  • Meetings and Supervision: Participate in regular team meetings and supervision sessions to stay aligned with the program's goals.
  • Miscellaneous: Perform additional duties as assigned, including emergency response, building inspections, and ensuring a clean, safe environment.

Requirements:

  • Education & Experience: High school diploma required; degree in mental health or related field preferred.
  • MHRT-I Certification or provisional eligibility required. In lieu of a degree, 2-4 years of relevant experience will be considered.
  • 1-2 years of Adult Mental Health Experience
  • PSS or CNA experience, current certification required.
  • Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to set boundaries with residents while offering support.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to perform moderate physical activities such as lifting, walking, and standing. Ability to assist clients physically when necessary. Client assistance in getting up from a fall requires two RSW II’s to assist.
  • Availability: Set schedule with some flexibility for occasional and additional program coverage as needed.

Salary: $24.65, with a valid MHRT1 $25.20

Benefits:

  • 401(k) with employer match after 1 year
  • Dental insurance
  • Flexible spending account
  • Health insurance
  • Short term and Long Term Disability
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Vision insurance
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
