JOB OVERVIEW:

Working at a high end restaurant, the Hostess maintains the reservations as well as member and guest relations.

REPORTS TO: Restaurant Supervisor

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Check-in with the manager before shift to assure there are no large parties and/or events you are not aware of.
• Answer the phone within two rings. Calls will include reservation calls; marina pick up calls and general information calls.
• Check the answering machine for any reservations.
• Return calls to confirm reservations for members and guests.
• Check daily to make sure all menus are wiped down and are in the correct location.
• Your hostess stand must be always clean and presentable. Keep the trashcan emptied.
• Look over the seating chart and section out areas for the servers. A hostess does not manage or organize the restaurant employees other than sectioning areas.
• Know the reservation times and tables for any walk-in members and guests or for any last-minute reservations. Also be aware of any member or guest who is late for a reservation and contact them.
• Professionally greet every member and guest with a smile, escort them to their seat and present all menus (if menus are not already on the table). Inform the member or guest the name of their server. Pull any extra place settings that are not being used.
• Let the server know they have a table by telling them the table number.
• Weave the restaurant to help know the timing of the tables.
• Help get tables ready for any members and guests who are waiting.
• Keep a running total of covers for each server to ensure fairness.
• No servers are to stand at the hostess stand or approach the hostess stand for information. Ask them to see the manager with all their questions.
• Turn off the lights in the Charles Davis room and the work-out room at the end of the evening.
• Check the guest restrooms. Notify the manager of any problems.
• Say goodbye to all members and guests. Check to see that their dining experience was amazing. The hostess is the first and last impression for members and guests. Immediately get a manager should their experience have not gone well. This is very important.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be able to pass a background check.
• Must have previous Food and Beverage experience.
• Must be able to maintain professional status through interface with customers, management, and co-workers.
• Must be able to work flexible schedules, including but not limited to extended hours, irregular shifts, evenings, holidays, and/or weekends.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand and walk for extended periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift more than 25lbs. Physical stamina and a proper mental attitude to work under pressure at a fast pace are essential. Must have the mental fortitude to handle the pressures of multiple tasks while providing excellent guest service.

Work Environment:

The duties of this position are primarily performed in indoor climate conditions.
