WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
SCDC is seeking a Chief Legal Officer (General Counsel) looking for a career where they can significantly impact the world. We encourage applications from individuals who are passionate about housing, community development, sustainability, innovation, and have a proven record of accomplishment of working with and under the guidance of Founders, Owners, Board of Directors, and can collaborate with other C-level leadership as well as managing other recognized and accomplished corporate professionals in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will exhibit the capacity to do context switching on the spot, think on their feet, and be willing to roll up their sleeves and do all types of work (strategic and tactical) – no task will be beneath them.
The Chief Legal Officer (CLO) will be reporting directly to Chairman of the Board, Odell Abdur-Raheem. The ideal candidate is a strategic thought leader, anticipating opportunities as well as risks, and can make decisions and accommodate change in both an independent and collaborative manner. The successful candidate will be a leader, a team player, and a mentor, bringing significant legal and risk management expertise and positive influence on our diverse and talented team.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS :
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Barred in Texas.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in corporate law, with a focus on startups and emerging companies.
- Extensive experience in providing legal advice to senior management and boards of directors.
- Proven track record in managing legal teams and outside counsel.
- Strong understanding of corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent negotiation and contract drafting skills.
- Ability to anticipate and mitigate legal risks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office. Candidates with limited proficiency will not be considered.
