Position Overview :

As the Development Director for Sharing Excess, Nourhan oversees the entire grants lifecycle, manages key donor relationships, and develops comprehensive fundraising strategies. Nourhan plays a vital role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization by identifying new funding opportunities, cultivating relationships with donors, and collaborating with the executive team to drive strategic growth. Her leadership extends to supervising the Community Engagement Department and contributing to the overall development and expansion of Sharing Excess.

Core Responsibilities :

Grant Management :

  • Oversee the complete grants lifecycle : sourcing, reviewing, drafting, and submitting grant applications on time.
  • Analyze grant outcomes (wins / losses) and provide reports on findings for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain communication with foundations, identifying new grant opportunities and following up on submitted applications.
  • Develop necessary documentation, including attachments, project budgets, and letters of support.
  • Supervise the Grant Writer and consultants involved in the grants process.

Fundraising Strategy & Donor Management :

  • Assist the Executive Director with communications to key funders and partners.
  • Gather and synthesize impact data for pitch decks, follow-up emails, and funding proposals.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising strategy, setting revenue goals and identifying key funding sources.
  • Manage relationships with individual donors, major gift prospects, and corporate sponsors, ensuring continued engagement and support.
  • Identify new donor prospects and help cultivate relationships.
  • Plan and execute fundraising campaigns and events in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversee donor stewardship efforts, including personalized thank-you notes, phone calls, and impact reports.
  • Monitor fundraising progress and adjust strategies based on donor trends, giving patterns, and performance metrics.
  • Ensure consistent communication with donors, providing regular updates on the organization’s impact, events, and campaigns.
  • Support the Strategic Partnerships Director and VP of Growth and Strategy with their fundraising and partnership goals.
  • Team & Board Development :

  • Prepare quarterly board meeting agendas, ensuring that all fundraising updates and materials are organized and distributed.
  • Work with HR and the leadership team to help define new roles and contribute to the organization's vision.
  • Support the Operations Director with team supervision and guide new team members.
  • Represent the organization at career fairs and tabling events as needed.
  • Identify professional development opportunities for the team, including conferences, webinars, and workshops.
  • Engage the board in fundraising efforts, providing tools and support for donor outreach.
  • Community Engagement Oversight :

  • Lead the Community Engagement Department, facilitating two weekly check-in meetings with team members.
  • Maintain strong communication with external partners to coordinate collaborative community events.
  • Field and manage inquiries for community engagement events, connecting new partners with the appropriate contacts.
  • Collaborate with the distribution team to set up new delivery partners and manage the Community Engagement Delivery calendar for pop-up food distribution events.
  • Financial Review & Burn Rate Management :

  • Regularly review financials, tracking outstanding receivables, expenses, and revenue trends.
  • Provide updates on expected receivables and work closely with the Finance Director on award letters and grant expectations.
  • Monitor the organization’s burn rate and develop hiring or equipment scenarios based on financial trends.
  • Develop and update operating budgets and budgets for new initiatives.
  • Create and send invoices for corporate partners as needed.
  • Additional Responsibilities :

  • Support the Operations Director, Executive Director, and other managers with key projects, including outreach, research, and presentation preparation.
  • Manage projects aimed at optimizing operational efficiency and securing crucial revenue streams.
  • Meet with leadership to brainstorm ideas for strategic growth and fundraising.
  • Assess opportunities for national expansion, supporting development efforts in new markets.
  • Oversee the CRM platform (Virtuous) to manage donor relationships, ensuring data accuracy and timely updates, and exploring its long-term viability.
  • Compensation :

  • Salary : Commensurate with experience.
  • Salary : $55,000 annually (commensurate with experience).

  • Work Location :

    This position is based in Philadelphia, PA, with a hybrid work schedule. Occasional travel for meetings, audits, or events may be required.
