The Sharon Center School is seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to join our team as a School Custodian. The custodian will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our school facilities, ensuring a conducive environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Night Custodian reports to the Lead Custodian and Facilities Manager. He/she is responsible for the cleanliness of the school facilities. This includes performing custodial work and related tasks as required.
Working Conditions:
The Sharon Center School, located in Sharon, CT, serves students in grades PreK-8. All employees work as a team in a respectful, caring environment. The school has a positive, welcoming tone, and a candidate must be friendly, flexible, and helpful toward all co-workers and community members in the building.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Ensures all responsibilities are carried out efficiently and reports work progress to the lead custodian and facilities manager.
- Participates in cleaning tasks such as removing trash, mopping, vacuuming, stripping, and waxing floors, dusting, and sanitizing classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, offices, stairways, restrooms, and other areas of the school building.
- Monitors and reports any heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system deficiencies, as well as any lighting, plumbing, or other essential systems.
- Ensures the building is secure at the end of each evening, including locking doors and windows, activating security alarms, and responding to any emergencies or security concerns that may arise during your shift.
- Set up and take down chairs, tables, and equipment for meetings and assemblies.
- Use a snow blower and shovels to remove snow from entrances and sidewalks.
- Any other duties as deemed necessary by the Lead Custodian, Facilities Manager and Principal.
Hours/Days:
- 8 hours/day - 12-month position
- 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Salary: $23 - $25 per hour

Mental/Physical Demands:
- Ability to work in poor weather, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- Ability to stand and walk for a significant amount of time, walking between different areas of the school campus.
- Ability to bend, twist, kneel, and crouch.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (25 - 50 lbs.) safely is required.
- Repetitive Motions: Certain tasks may involve repetitive motions.
