What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Technician - 1st Shift position at Sharp Packaging?
SUMMARY
Primary responsibilities include technical operations support in setup, maintenance, troubleshooting and operation of high speed, PLC controlled automatic packaging equipment. Strong electrical diagnostic and troubleshooting skills are required to effectively support and assist in the repair and maintenance of automated packaging and sensing equipment as required. Maintains a cGMP production environment and standards throughout the production area(s). Adheres to workplace environmental, health and safety (EHS) guidelines and procedures while actively promoting and enforcing adherence.
This is a customer-facing role and customer interaction will be a part of daily activities. Essential Duties will require a close-knit integration with various departments including Quality, Validation, Engineering, etc., and the extended team comprised of non-Sharp employees. New business and continuous improvement team member duties, including root cause analysis, corrective action and risk assessment team involvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties will be assigned as necessary.
Primary responsibilities:
- Assists in equipment installation, qualification and commissioning activities.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and OEM technical documents.
- Manages Technical Operations projects for new equipment such as checkweighers, table scales, and packaging equipment.
- Ability to author technical documents such as Change Controls and WRKI’s, Review MPR’s etc.
- Helps train and develop new technician hires.
- Logs data into process check sheets.
- Initiates parts requisition order for parts and machines.
- Assists in maintaining and replenishing a spare parts inventory for all equipment within the scope of responsibility.
- Performs electromechanical troubleshooting including fuse testing, motor and relay replacement, and robotic component handling systems, PLC controllers, sensors, setup and adjustment of online printing, barcode scanning, and OCR/OCV vision equipment.
- Performs routine backups of PLC and HMI programs.
- Monitors the Building Automation System infrastructure related to VHP system, air compressors, air driers, etc.
- Verify the Calibration status of measuring gauges including Temperature Controllers and related Thermocouples, Air and Vacuum gauges, and Timers.
- Performs On Demand Maintenance activities when required, including calibration of packaging equipment, overseeing OEM support and calibration specialist personnel, and appropriately documenting all activities per Sharps procedures
- Corresponds with project team members via email daily and attends project meetings.
- Technical analysis of root cause and corrective action establishment during event investigations.
- Ability to take ownership and drive corrective actions including documentation updates, Change Control development, and equipment system upgrades.
- Ability to travel internationally as part of an extended team to support new equipment purchases when necessary.
- Hours will vary based on business needs.
As needed Responsibilities:
- Sets up various automated packaging equipment systems including removal of previous tooling, removal and replacement of covers and guarding for access of cleaning crew.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair machine breakdowns in conjunction with maintenance and engineering personnel.
- Performs Preventative Maintenance activities.
- Operates packaging equipment in support of daily operations activities.
- Removes/repairs or replaces defective parts.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervision of outside contractors, including OEM technicians, specialists and facility contractors where necessary.
