- Implements and maintains the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) program.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable federal/state/local government laws/regulations, corporate policies, and industry best practices.
- Represents the EHS function for a Sharp Packaging Services, LLC (Sharp) site to provide a safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly workplace for all employees, customers, contractors, and visitors.
- Coordinates EHS activities including, but not limited to, Product Safety Assessments, Machine Safety Evaluations, employee training, industrial hygiene assessments, customer and regulatory audits/inspections by performing the following duties personally or through collaborative staff.
- Promotes continuous improvement.
The following is a list of minimum responsibilities related to the EHS Specialist position. Other duties may also be assigned.
- Ensure compliance with established EHS standards including, but not limited to, OSHA, EPA, DEP, and Sharp corporate policies. Evaluate consensus standards for applicability.
- Maintain current working knowledge of EHS regulations. Serve as a resource for the Local Management Team by providing guidance on EHS related issues.
- Develop and maintain the local Emergency Response Plan and other emergency related plans. Take action necessary to mitigate hazards in response to emergencies or situations deemed an imminent hazard.
- Assist with customer EHS audits. Complete site specific EHS questionnaires as submitted by customers.
- Facilitate compliance with established EHS standards by conducting/coordinating audits, inspections, reporting violations, recommending corrective actions, and follow corrective actions to implementation.
- Assist management with incident investigations and provide recommendations for Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA). Manage all site specific workers compensation claims with our insurance carrier and broker.
- Ensure that accurate EHS documentation is maintained to demonstrate compliance with applicable EHS standards, governmental regulations, insurance requirements, and company goals/objectives.
- Chair the site EHS Committee and provide guidance to the management team.
- Conduct Machine Safety Evaluations (MSE) for all new and retrofitted equipment.
- Review Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals on site. Conduct Product Safety Assessments (PSA) for all new products. Manage SDS database.
- Coordinate employee medical surveillance, industrial hygiene and environmental monitoring.
- Develop training presentations on EHS as required. Conduct training. Maintain training documentation and training database.

- Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational/Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or other EHS related field preferred. Other degree’s may be considered.
- Five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification in an EHS related discipline (GSP, ASP) is a plus.
