POSITION:  TEACHER – EARLY EDUCATION

SALARY:      $19.83 - $30.67 per hour

REPORTS TO:         Director/Coordinator

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the assigned Administrator, provide high quality instruction, care and assistance to children, infants to school-age, in a classroom or other learning environment; coordinate instructional assistants and volunteers, instructional activities and resources to meet the needs of students; train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel in compliance with state and federal laws, local and organizational policies, procedures and guidelines.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Provide instruction, care and assistance to children, infants to school-age, in a classroom or other learning environment; develop and implement lesson plans and instructional activities to meet the social - emotional, physical and cognitive needs of children and enhance school/ kindergarten readiness.

 

Coordinate support staff and volunteers, instructional activities and resources to meet the needs of students; organize, oversee and participate in a variety of classroom functions including instructional and childcare services; enable adequate equipment, supplies and materials to meet student needs; oversee student attendance, first aid, health check and record-keeping functions.

 

Train and provide input to the evaluation of the performance of assigned staff.

 

Plan, develop and implement high quality instructional activities to support the development and growth of each child and the classroom as a whole.  Curriculum areas include, but are not limited to:  approaches to learning self-regulation, social-emotional development, language and literacy development, English language development, cognition including math and science, physical development and health, history, social science, and visual and performing arts. 

 

As age appropriate, assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects; promote student understanding of classroom rules and procedures; assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.

 

Monitor and assess student needs and progress with standards-based and observational assessments; establish individual student goals and objectives; develop and implement instructional activities to enhance student skills in designated developmental areas; summarize data and share during parent conferences.

 

Plan and oversee field trips, fire drills, emergency evacuation drills and other special functions.

 

Plan and implement a high quality inviting early learning environment, inside and outside, in accordance with established age-appropriate environmental rating systems.

 

Prepare and maintain records, reports and files related to student progress, needs, attendance, incidents, health, assessment, injuries, food service and assigned activities; maintain sign-in logs.

 

Enable the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures; maintain learning environment in a safe, orderly and clean manner in order to provide a safe and clean environment.  Relevant duties may include cleaning tables and floors; clean, set up, and set out toys, equipment and instructional materials as necessary.

 

Oversee and participate in meal and snack times and required record-keeping; assist children with eating activities; wash children's hands and faces after play times and meals; assist children with toileting and change diapers and soiled clothing as needed.

 

Communicate with District personnel and outside agencies to initiate referrals and/or exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns or identified barriers, access services in order to support and strengthen the overall socio-economic and educational well-being of the child and family.  Participate in case management meetings, child and family study team meeting, incorporate IEP goals and objectives into the center program, cooperate with speech therapists, physical therapists, psychologist, behavior consultants and other ancillary support personnel.

 

Operate a variety of office and instructional equipment including a computer and assigned software; arrange for classroom and equipment maintenance and repairs as needed.

 

Attend and conduct parent, staff and other conferences and meetings as directed; provide information to parents, staff and others concerning instructional activities, student needs and related functions; collaborate with other staff and parents in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plan goals and objectives; attend in-services as directed.

 

Observe and respond to behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures; monitor student health conditions; administer routine first aid and CPR as directed; refer serious injuries or health issues to appropriate personnel.

 

Comply with mandated reporting requirements including (but not limited to) Community Care Licensing, Child Protective Services, and Worker’s Compensation.

 

Monitor inventory levels of classroom supplies; order, receive and maintain inventory of classroom supplies.

Subjects taught in District schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading.

Operation of office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Minimum 12 ECE Core units and possess a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher. Completion of a health and safety college or 8-hour health and safety course. Must obtain Site Supervisor Permit within 2 years.

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

Hold or ability to obtain from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing any of the following permits: Child Development Master Teacher Permit, Child Development Teacher Permit or Child Development Associate Teacher Permit with 12 ECE Core units of Early Childhood Education. Completion of health and safety college course or ability to obtain an 8-hour health and safety class within two (2) months of employment.
Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency.
