- SENIOR MANAGEMENT. ON OR NEAR EACH JANUARY 1, EMPLOYEES IN THIS SENIOR MANAGEMENT DESIGNATED CLASS SHALL RECEIVE A LUMP SUM ALLOWANCE IN THE AMOUNT OF $200.00 FOR UNREIMBURSED EXPENSES INCURRED IN THE CONDUCT OR PROMOTION OF COUNTY BUSINESS.
- AN EMPLOYEE IN THE CLASSIFICATION OF ASSISTANT AGRICULTURAL COMMISSIONER/SEALER OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES WHO POSSESSES OR ATTAINS A VALID CALIFORNIA LICENSURE OF ELIGIBILITY AS COUNTY AGRICULTURAL COMMISSIONER, SHALL RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL SEVEN AND ONE-HALF PERCENT (7.5%) OF BASE SALARY.
- AN EMPLOYEE IN THE CLASSIFICATION OF ASSISTANT AGRICULTURAL COMMISSIONER/SEALER OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES WHO POSSESS OR ATTAINS A VALID CALIFORNIA LICENSURE OF ELIGIBILITY AS A COUNTY SEALER OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES, SHALL RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL FIVE PERCENT (5%) OF BASE PAY.
CELL PHONE ALLOWANCES:- For authorized Senior Management using a personal Cell Phone, the allowance shall be $35.00 per month.
- For authorized Senior Management using a personal Cell Phone with an activated Data Service Plan, the allowance shall be $70.00 per month.
Holidays: 12 days per year.- 8-hour floating holiday
- Vacation: 10 days first 3 years; increasing with service
- Sick Leave: 12 days per year with a pro rata payoff at termination after at least 5 years.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures is tasked with implementing and enforcing provisions of California’s Food and Agriculture Code, Business and Professions Code, the California Code of Regulations, and local ordinances. The programs and services administered by the Agricultural Commissioner include pesticide use enforcement, pest exclusion and export services, pest detection/eradication, nursery and seed inspection, fruit/vegetable/egg quality control, and apiary services. Weights and measures programs aim to protect consumers and foster equity in the marketplace through the inspection of weighing and measuring devices, testing of prepackaged commodities for conformance with stated weight or volume, price verification inspections, the regulation of automotive fuels and fluids, and weighmaster enforcement.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Under general direction, assists in the administration, development, and coordination of the agricultural and weights and measures inspection and enforcement program; and to perform related supervisory and professional work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under the direction of the Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures is responsible for field duties and assisting in departmental administration; may act for the Commissioner/Sealer in that person's absence; and performs other related duties as assigned.

The Assistant Commissioner understands and embraces the importance of public service and will continuously seek ways to improve business procedures and processes. They are an experienced supervisor who effectively motivates staff, fosters continuous learning at all levels of the department and promotes a supportive team environment within the office. Additionally, the ideal candidate has demonstrated experience performing budgeting work and in preparing concise and accurate reporting for external agencies.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assists the Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures in planning, coordinating and directing the operations of the department; conducts all phases of agricultural and weights and measures inspections; represents the department at state and local meetings as directed; assists in conducting office hearings on agricultural and weights and measures violations; assists in establishing and implementing policies and procedures; prepares a variety of reports and correspondence; acts as department Safety Officer and Coordinator; develops and maintains department training programs; ensures safe conduct of department operations; makes presentations to interested groups on departmental programs as requested; acts for the Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures and supervises staff in that person's absence in all matters assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience sufficient to directly demonstrate possession and application of the following:
Knowledge of: The organization, procedures, and operating details of a county agricultural department; and weights and measures programs; agricultural and weights and measures inspection and enforcement techniques; research principles and methods, including statistics; basic principles and practices of modern organization, administration, and supervision.
Ability to: Plan and supervise the work of an agricultural and weights and measures inspection and enforcement program; evaluate program operations and recommend changes in procedures and policies to improve efficiency; establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, the public, and others contacted in the course of the work; understand, interpret and apply laws and regulations pertaining to agricultural and weights and measures programs; collect, interpret and evaluate data; express ideas effectively in oral and written form.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Three (3) years of experience performing agricultural and/or weights and measures inspections and enforcement work comparable to that of a Deputy Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights & Measures in Shasta County.

Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
Possession of valid California licensure of eligibility as a Deputy Agricultural Commissioner and as a Deputy Sealer of Weights and Measures.
