Laborer

Laborers perform work of moderate difficulty in the repair and maintenance of tugs, barges and facility equipment.

Classification : Non-Exempt

Hourly : Starts at $27.23

Reports to : Maintenance Supervisor

Essential Functions - Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Use a variety of power hand tools, and air powered tools.
Pressure wash barges and tugs.
Paint barges and tugs.
Use needle guns.
Perform work of physical nature as directed.

Knowledge / Qualifications

Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language.

Must acquire and maintain a valid Port Card.

Must be able to work 8 - 12 hours per day.

Must have basic knowledge of machines and tools.

Must pass a DOT drug screen, criminal background check, and be able to obtain and maintain a valid Workers Transportation Identity Credential (TWIC).

Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must be able to follow instructions clearly and work well as part of a team.

Skills

Use safe work habits.

Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Should be capable of monitoring and assessing performance of yourself to make improvements or take corrective action.

Be able to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents using the English language.

Abilities

The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.

The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.

The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down.

The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.

The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.

Working Conditions - Shaver Transportation conducts its business at all hours of the day and night, in all types of weather conditions. There may be times your responsibilities require you to work in unfavorable weather conditions aboard vessels or barges. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Requirements - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the shift. The employee must frequently lift and / or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type : Seasonal Full Time - April 2022 through August 2022

Expected Hours of Work : Four 10-hour shifts consisting of 40 hours per week with occasional overtime.

Travel : NA

Responsibilities

Safely complete assigned tasks as directed.

Conduct yourself professionally and ethically at all times.

Adhere to company health and safety regulations.

Work within time lines for fast repairs.

Comply with safety regulations and Company policy.

Maintain clean and orderly work areas.

Safely perform assigned duties as directed.

Display professional and ethical conduct.

Perform all work with proper PPE, including respirator as needed.

Report unusual situations to proper supervision.
