Position Overview
Carpet and Flooring Material manufacturing traditionally requires high operator physical interaction. Shaw’s Residential Division goal is to reduce physical interaction to focus on quality and customer satisfaction. We are seeking an experienced automation project manager with technical experience and skills to reach that goal.
Scope of Work:
- Discovery, Evaluation, Development, and Implementation of New Automation Technologies
- Implementing Fully Integrated Robot, AGV, Cobot and ASRS Systems
- Integrating data exchanges using RFID, Barcode, camera, tracking with Process and Data Automation
- Simulation and FMEA of automation projects
- Development and Maintenance of Standards and Vendor Supply Details
- New Technology Discovery and Rapid Execution of Proof of Concept
- Deployment of data analytics and data automation through Division Process Engineers
Scope of Responsibility: The Automation Manager will be responsible for:
- Develop, maintain, and implement 5-year automation roadmap including purpose productivity goals, and capital budgets that align with business strategy and evolve with business needs.
- Collaborate with Plant, Division and Enterprise partners to identify gaps and propose high value productivity automation solutions.
- Focus on productivity improvements that mitigate operator product handling, involve process automation, material movement automation, storage automation, and new packaging material that will enable automation.
- Champion use of V-Model (Automation Systems Development Life Cycle Process) for automation project planning in SmartSheet.
- Foster a culture of innovation within the team and with plant stakeholders to challenge the status quo leveraging both new technologies and creative solutions within existing systems
- Ability to seek out next generation technologies and solutions.
- Drive standardization where applicable
- Influence Enterprise automation standards and support Enterprise Governance.
- Engage Shaw Global Sourcing – support agreements, warranty, Software license, documentation requirements.
- Engage Corporate Legal – NDA terms, ownership and invention (IP), Indemnification
- Selling and communicating the story - Able to take a complex subject and simplify. Communication to all levels of the organization.
- Focus on change management
- Ensure efficient discovery and execution of solutions via external partners/integrators where appropriate
- Enable data analytics and data automation that provide actionable insights
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline
- 15-20 years of increasing responsibility in operations / engineering / automation
- Proven performance in strategic planning, project execution, and leadership.
- Demonstrated success at scope, design, installation, commissioning and sustaining automation solutions.
- Confirmed success in sustained Automated System performance post-implementation
- Passion and experience in Automation Ideation
- Experience w/ Continuous Improvement Methodologies
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills that would be consistent with skills necessary for presentations to Senior Leadership
