Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Technical School or Associate’s Degree (preferred)
3. 2 or more years experience in aquatics
4. Must have excellent communication skills and a patient demeanor when dealing with the public
5. Active or ability to renew following certifications: a. Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) b. Swim Instructor c. Lifeguard Certification d. Lifeguard Instructor Certification e. Certified Pool Operator f. CPR g. First Aid
JOB SUMMARY:
Ensure the district pool facility is properly maintained and meets WI State code. Supervise pool staff and oversee enforcement of all safety procedures, district policies and pool guidelines. Monitor facility calendar for self and staff scheduling purposes to provide appropriate coverage for district, public and other schools’ activities and events. Make certain coaches’, physical education teachers’, lifeguards’ and patrons’ needs are met regarding the district pool facility.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES for Shawano School District Athletics, Physical Education and Community
Education:
- Lifeguard: Supervise swimming activities at the facility; Ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed; Administer first aid in the event of injury; Rescues swimmers in distress or in danger of drowning; Administer CPR and first aid when necessary
- Instructor: Teach various Red Cross swim levels to the community; Teach Red Cross lifeguarding and first aid with CPR to various patrons; Offer recertification to lifeguards on staff and for staff and community groups.
- Community Education: Instruct a variety of community education courses.
- Administrative: Schedule lifeguards for all pool activities; Maintain water quality documents;
Complete daily water testing; Ensure cleanliness of the pool area; Monitor all pool area equipment to ensure proper working condition; Maintain written onsite protocols, operational procedures and safety;
Maintain certification records of all pool staff members; Maintain records for State-mandated reporting;
Meet with the State inspector when necessary and supply any information required after inspection
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building administrator and/or supervisor
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct supervision of approximately 10 employees. Supervisory responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to: Developing, directing, disciplining, hiring, promoting, scheduling, and training.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
General understanding of public pool operations including scheduling and management of the pool itself. Solid knowledge of safety protocol for staff and the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands of this position include: Balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, finger & hand dexterity, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, multi-limb coordination, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, stooping, talking and walking. Visual demands of the position require close visual acuity and a degree of distant visual acuity, and as well as color discrimination. Distance vision is also required.
WORK TYPE CLASSIFICATION:
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:
