Shawnee Christian Healthcare Center, Inc. (SCHC) is a 501(c)3 Federally Qualified Health Center located in the Shawnee Neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. The Hygienist assures high quality dental care and customer service. Working from a patient-centered medical home model, this position is responsible for care coordination as a member of a care team in an integrated primary care setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides dental hygiene treatment to children and adults in a dental office or school clinic sits.
- Performs dental prophylaxis, remove deposits (plague, tarter, stain) from teeth, and take and develop necessary radiographs
- Applies preventive agents such as fluoride and sealants to the tooth surfaces and assist dentist as required in further treatment of teeth and gums
- Examines teeth and gums for signs of disease or decay
- Charts conditions for further diagnosis and treatment by dentist and for proper patient record maintenance
- Assists dental providers in assuring that all patient records and documents are properly and accurately completed and fields
- Reports accurately all procedures to billing staff for proper billing to patient or third-party payers
- Ensures the proper disposal of all materials in accordance with center policy as well as state and federal regulation(s)
- Supports and assists special community oriented dental care programs
- Manages recall system in partnership with Dental Receptionist to ensure continuity of care and production goals are met
- Strong alignment with SCHC Mission and demonstrates behaviors aligned with SCHC Statement of Faith and Core Values
- Other duties as necessary to ensure successful attainment of SCHC goals and objectives
Job Qualifications and Requirements
- Dental hygiene degree from an accredited dental hygiene program
- Active dental hygiene license issued by the KY state board
- Current CPR/BLS Certificate
- Comprehensive knowledge of dental hygiene techniques, procedures, and all phases of general dentistry. Knowledge of dental materials, their storage, handling, and application is required.
- Ability to operate all types of dental equipment and machinery
- Strong Communication and interpersonal skills including a respect for and appreciation of diversity
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks to completion
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
- Experience with electronic medical records, particularly NextGen preferred
