Job Title: General Laborer / Trainee
Department: Feed Warehouse / Packing Department
Reports to: Department Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt / Hourly
Position Summary:
The General Laborer/Trainee is specifically intended as a training position for our new team members. We are seeking individuals with a strong work ethic, and the desire to be an integral part of our operations. This is an entry level position that presents an opportunity to get your foot in the door with our company. This position has promotional pay opportunities and generous benefits. The duties required for this position are varied. Trainees must be able to lift 50-pounds, have the ability to work across a wide variety of different assignments, working conditions, shifts that may vary and have a team work mentality. All job duties require attention to safe operation and demonstration of safe work habits.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Trainee performs a wide range of labor-intensive work, including but not limited to the following:
- Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects of 50 pound weight. This includes building pallets with product.
- Ability to make simple and repeated movements.
- Comfortable with heights. Ability to ride man-lift in order to move throughout the plant.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
- Flexibility to accept and adapt to change as well as the commitment to seek continuous improvement.
- Ability to operate different types of industrial grade cleaning equipment as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to pass drug screening and criminal background check.
- Comfortable with heights.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to sit, speak, and listen for extended periods of time
- Frequently required to use eye‐hand coordination, repetitive hand movements and manual dexterity to handle, finger, or feel
- Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Required to bend, reach to shoulder level and lift, carry, twist, push and/or pull a minimum of 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
- Hearing level within normal/average range
- Must be comfortable with heights
- Ability to wear personal protective gear (PPE) correctly for the entirety of shift
Working Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts in a production environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Temperatures inside the plant can fluctuate between hot and cold according to season change. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in the production department and other designated areas.
Compensation:
· “Trainee” period (90 days) - $13.92 - $17.38 (Depending on Experience)
Work Schedule:
- Hours per day: 8 to 12
- Days per week: 6 to 7
- Mandatory overtime (Varies with production schedule)
- Must be open to work 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift
- Overtime available; paid at 1.5x regular rate of pay and 2x regular rate of pay on Sunday’s.
