Position Summary
This part time/on-call position requires a trustworthy and versatile technical individual with a background in telecommunication and computer systems, general repair and maintenance, and system support. Preferred experience includes telecom wiring, computer maintenance and repair, general mechanical aptitude, and software applications. The individual must be able to work on their own within correctional facilities while interacting with customers, employees, and partners. The Roving Tech will be directly responsible for the support and maintenance of the inmate call-out system, phone infrastructure, and other maintenance systems tasks to provide efficient system utilization and performance in the various locations (VA - Richmond, Norfolk, Roanoke; MI - Detroit, Grand Rapids; PA - Philadelphia, Pittsburgh; WI - Madison, Milwaukee; and OH - Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus).
Key Responsibilities
- Repairs, maintains, programs, and installs telecommunications hardware, associated LAN/WAN/networking hardware/software, various electronic equipment and wiring per specifications, codes, standards, and operational procedures in correctional facilities
- Repairs/installs phones, kiosk, video terminals, WAP’s, tablets and other required equipment within correctional facilities within assigned area of responsibility
- Troubleshooting, correcting, and servicing issues with inmate communication systems
- Identifying, repairing, and resolving operational inmate call system problems
- Addressing basic telephone repair and maintenance needs of the facility
- Meeting all service requirements put forth by the customer contracts
- Building and maintaining working relationships with the facility staff and customer contacts
- Monitoring time and controlling service-related expenses
- Installing hardware and related equipment
- Working with data and low-voltage cabling and wiring
- Delivering services in a timely and effective manner to ensure optimal system performance resulting in highly satisfied customers
- Safely drive vehicle to various locations throughout the assigned state
- Addressing basic wireless access point (WAP) repair and maintenance needs of the facility
Qualifications
Qualifications
Experience:
- Two to four years of installation repair and maintenance of telecom and networking devices
- Experience working with Windows OS, VOIP, ADTRAN AOS, Cisco IOS and wireless technology
- Telephony experience - including but not limited to pulling cable, terminations and troubleshooting wiring dial tone problems
Education:
- Technical associate degree or equivalent experience
- Current A-Plus and Network-Plus certification, highly desired
Supporting Competencies/Skills
- Knowledge of video surveillance (Optional)
- Familiarity with wireless networking
- In-depth knowledge of fiber optic cable, testing, splicing, and provisioning
- Ability to drive and/or travel to correctional facility to maintain and service phone systems, WAP and tablets
- On-call assignment of work via assigned trouble tickets
- Timeliness when responding to and resolving phone system problems
- Ability to follow work assignments made by operations dispatch
- Adherence to company policies and procedures
- Courteous and professional behavior with internal and correctional facility staff
- Ability to fully complete assigned tasks with quality and efficiency
