What are the responsibilities and job description for the Airport Intern - LTE position at Sheboygan County?
Under supervision of Sheboygan County Memorial International Airport management, the intern will be exposed to an airport operations/administrative role while performing meaningful work to support airport and fixed base operator (FBO) operations. The intern will investigate and learn about the business/operations of Sheboygan County Memorial International Airport through educational and hands-on experience. By the conclusion of the internship, the individual should be qualified and prepared for an entry-level operations or customer service position at an airport.
Assists customers with facilitating ground transportation, relocation of vehicles, accommodations, and provides directions. Serves as initial contact in answering telephones, greeting the public, and furnishing information for inquiries received from users of the FBO and the general public.
Accurately and efficiently receive and process transactions for fuel purchases and related fees in accordance with County policies and procedures. Coordinate ancillary services between pilots, passengers, and Line Service Technicians.
Communicates information using the aviation phonetic alphabet to clearly speak and hear numerical sequences over two-way radio systems. Provide weather information and other guidance to pilots as needed.
Accurately provide cashiering and point-of-sale (POS) machine management, develop invoices, receive payments, and perform daily fuel reconciliation as needed.
Monitor arriving and departing aircraft to ensure services and guidance are offered promptly.
Assists with some portions of the marketing, promotions, and public relations functions
Possesses sufficient knowledge of the FBO’s organization, policies, and personnel to make administrative decisions exercising independent judgement as expected by management.
Completes intern projects that are assigned on an as needed basis by airport management. The following are examples of potential projects/tasks: completing security audits, updating/rewriting required plans and documents, participating in property cleaning/maintenance, and completing other operations/facility management tasks as assigned.
Gain exposure to tenant leases, Request for Proposals and the bid process.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Currently attending or enrolled in post-secondary education (Business Administration, Airport Management, or other aviation related field preferred).
Successfully complete drug screen and background check.
Possess valid driver’s license.
Ability to work independently in varying climate and noise conditions.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Ability to use hands to grasp, handle and manipulate objects. Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting, but occasionally in a variety of other indoor and outdoor settings. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. A combination of sitting and standing postures may be required.
Must be able to travel by car to various locations throughout Sheboygan County.
Must be able to operate standard office equipment including telephone, computer, facsimile, calculator, printer, and photocopier.
Reports directly to Airport Superintendent, is indirectly supervised by FBO Supervisor and Transportation Director. Has frequent contact with airport tenants, general public, and other County employees. May interact with the Transportation Committee, Airport Advisory Committee, other stakeholders and users of the Airport.
