A Courthouse Security Deputy is a deputy sheriff assigned to Court Services and is primarily responsible for the security and good order of the court to which he or she is assigned. The Courthouse Security Deputy is also responsible for overall building security, by overseeing the search of people and property entering the courthouse.
Courthouse Security Deputy will be responsible for the formal opening of courthouse each day.
Courthouse Security Deputy will be in attendance in court during any and all in-custody hearings.
Courthouse Security Deputy is responsible for the maintenance of good order while court is in session and is charged with preventing unnecessary noise or disturbances in or about the courtroom.
Courthouse Security Deputy is responsible to protect the court, litigants, or members of the public from harm while court is in session.
Courthouse Security Deputy must guard the defendant in a criminal proceeding unless special courtroom security has been provided.
Courthouse Security Deputy is responsible for sequestration of witnesses in accordance with the instructions of the judge.
Courthouse Security Deputy will provide assistance to witnesses, litigants, and the public by answering questions regarding court procedures.
Courthouse Security Deputy is responsible for courtroom security. In this regard, the Courthouse Security Deputy will check the courtroom, chambers, and holding area before court begins, and will ensure that all of these areas are locked when not in use or before leaving for the day, in accordance with instructions of the judge. The Courthouse Security Deputy must search any defendant sentenced to jail before being incarcerated.
Courthouse Security Deputy will assist the court as required.
Courthouse Security Deputy has responsibility for juries as directed by the judge and in conjunction with the Clerk of Courts.
Courthouse Security Deputy is responsible, under the direction of the Corporal or Sergeant of Court Services, and as instructed by the judge, for the movement of prisoners and mental patients to and from the courtroom.
Courthouse Security Deputies, when necessary, will act pursuant to a legal writ or warrant and safely transfer prisoners to or from the State prison system, approved mental health facilities or local law enforcement agencies according to the specific judicial order.
Courthouse Security Deputy will check all courtroom security/panic alarms on a regular basis.
When required, Courthouse Security Deputy will assist Civil Process as a process server. While performing the specific responsibilities of Process Server, the Courthouse Security Deputy will do so in accordance with and pursuant to the responsibilities/duties documented in the position description for Civil Process Deputy.
Courthouse Security Deputy will be responsible for manning the front entrance security checkpoint. This duty may involve monitoring walk through metal detectors or scanners, using handheld metal detectors, or person or property searches.
Any other duties assigned by the sheriff or his/her designee.
Two-year associate’s degree in criminal justice or equivalent.
Self-motivated with the ability to effectively, efficiently, and entirely complete assignments with minimal supervision.

Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions.

Courthouse Security Deputies will work from 0800 to 1700, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break, Monday through Friday.
Courthouse Security Deputies may be required to work overtime to meet the needs of the Department or their court.
Courthouse Security Deputies assigned to front entrance security checkpoints will work 0730-1630 and 0830-1730 hours with a one-hour unpaid lunch break.
Courthouse Security Deputies will be subject to call-in on off-days/off-hours when warranted by the needs of the Department.
