Internship: Content Marketing
Season: Summer 2024 (Approx Jun-Aug)

Internship Overview:
The content marketing intern will gain a solid understanding of the marketing skills needed to strategize content and write/edit for a non-profit organization in the zoo and aquarium space. They will sit within a department responsible for communicating with nearly 2MM people on annual basis and will learn how storytelling best helps accomplish those goals.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn what goes into developing a content strategy
- Review 2023 content analysis and understand how data informs decisions
- Partner with staff to continue activating 2024 web and blog content strategy
- Understand how to write/edit as a brand using Shedd’s brand voice
- Practice AP Style
- Apply journalism best practices
- Study Shedd’s brand standards
- Compare Shedd’s writing to other zoos, aquariums, museums
- Expand storytelling experience
- Read past Shedd blogs
- Learn what makes a good story
- Write a blog - See ideas through the process from ideation to published
Responsibilities & Projects:
- Demonstrate commitment to Shedd’s vision, mission and values
- Follow the blog storytelling process - Brainstorm story ideas, write the stories with necessary interviews, source photos, build blogs and publish them on Shedd’s website, and work with team members to share via other channels
- Review, assess and edit other content on Shedd’s website
- Partner with staff to assist in writing and editing email copy for Marketing, Development, Learning and Corporate Partners as needed
- Partner with staff to analyze data to inform decisions
- Participate in team meetings with Marketing and other departments
- Other projects as assigned

Time & Compensation:
- This is a non-exempt, temporary position that pays $15.80 per hour
- We anticipate this position will be scheduled for 24 hours per week for 12 weeks, pending business needs and individual performance.
- Preferred schedule: Ideally, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9-5.
- Set schedule based on intern availability.
