Position Summary

We are looking for a full-time Senior Database Engineer located in San Diego, CA to lead the development and management of Shein’s databases and distributed systems. This role centers on MySQL and other database technologies, reporting directly to the Head of Database and with regular updates to the CTO.

You will work in large-scale, mission-critical environments with zero tolerance for downtime, responsible for designing high-availability solutions. The Shein Database Reliability Engineering team comprises DBAs and Systems Engineers committed to delivering highly available data services globally. Our team focuses on building a reliable, high-performance, and secure database infrastructure through automation. This includes designing new architectures and scalability solutions to support our growing business and data processing needs.

As this is an operational role, availability for urgent matters, including incident response during evenings and holidays, is required. Compensated time off will be provided on the next business day for any off-hours work.

Job Responsibilities

• Reliability: Ensure the reliability and efficiency of SHEIN's database infrastructure, prioritizing system capacity, stability, and strict adherence to reliability standards and recovery procedures.
• On-call: Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, address performance bottlenecks, and ensure system high availability during scheduled on-call rotations.
• Incident Management: Oversee monitoring, backups, performance tuning, and failure recovery for database systems. Triage and resolve database issues, manage incidents through to resolution, and implement preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.

Job Requirements

• 3 years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• A solid understanding of distributed/replicated database topologies.
• Strong foundational knowledge of computer software, with expertise in Linux operating systems, storage, network I/O, and related principles.
• Track record monitoring and analyzing DB performance, isolating issues or bottlenecks that could impact reliability, performance and scalability.
• Experience with distributed systems, big data, and SRE practices, including technologies like Kubernetes and Docker/Containers.
• Proficient in more than one scripting language (shell/Go/python, etc.)

Nice to have

• Azure experience.
• Bilingual in Mandarin.

Pay

$107,600.00 min. – $180,200.00 max annually. Bonus & RSU offered.
