Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient CAD/BIM Operator to join our team with the job location to be on-site at WMATA premises in Alexandria, VA or New Carrolton, MD. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and managing digital designs and models using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and the ability to work collaboratively with architects, engineers, and construction professionals.
Proposed Salary: $70 - 110k annual

In this role, you will be responsible for creating and managing digital designs and models using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and the ability to work collaboratively with architects, engineers, and construction professionals.
- Create and edit drawings using AutoCAD and Revit to support capital projects spanning the entire project life cycle from preliminary to final design, procurement, as-builts, project monitoring, and control;
- Update existing standard and design directive drawings with revisions presented from project engineering and project management discussions;
- Calculate quantities and perform engineering-related computations;
- Review and analyze CAD/Revit-related deliverables from the various phases of the project life cycle;
- Verify accuracy of drawings, compatibility of work across disciplines, and accuracy and level of detail for quantity calculations;
- Provide training and mentoring of less experienced technicians;
- Maintain project contract records, plans and specifications, and related engineering and administrative records;
- Maintain full familiarity with plans, specifications, construction schedules, and contractor's plans on assigned contracts;
- Provide technical support activities for capital and non-capital project procurement activities;
- Maintain a working knowledge of WMATA standard processes and procedures;
- Collaboratively work with both internal and external stakeholders to offer suggestions for eliminating issues related to modern design concepts and existing ones;
- Adhere to WMATA practices, policies, and procedures for CAD/BIM standards, document revision, and configuration control;
- Attend monthly progress meetings; and
- Perform additional assignments as directed by the WMATA Task Manager.
- Associate’s degree, or higher, in drafting or a related field; or in lieu of degree, a minimum of five
- years of experience in CAD or BIM infrastructure projects;
- Five (5) years of experience using CAD software (AutoCAD and Revit);
- Working knowledge of architecture, engineering, OSHA, and security related requirements as it pertains to WMATA’s portfolio of existing and proposed infrastructure. Specific experience with preparing drawings that adhere to the various code requirements for all disciplines of federal, state, and local jurisdictions is required;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical technical writing skills; and
- Extensive experience with all Microsoft applications. Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience with WMATA Standard and Design Drawings, as-built drawing reviews, CAD/BIM Manual, WMATA Emergency Response MAPS (ERMs) preferred
- Five (5) years of experience working on WMATA infrastructure projects preferred
