We are seeking a talented and innovative Design Engineer to join our team with the job location to be on-site at WMATA premises in Alexandria, VA or New Carrolton, MD. Proposed Salary: $70- 85k annual

As a Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in developing and improving products, systems, and processes within our organization. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create efficient and cost-effective design solutions that meet our clients' needs and industry standards.
- Support capital and non-capital design projects originated from or identified by WMATA’s Maintenance Departments requests, Capital Improvement Programs and FTA Directives;
- Ensures that design projects are performed on time and within budget in conformance with stakeholder requirements by applying appropriate and proper electronic document archiving procedures;
- Develops and administers design project scope, schedule, and budget;
- Manages work plans, quality control and coordination with WMATA internal stakeholders;
- Manages and coordinates employee and consultant technical resources, oversees, and directs employee and consultant teams to ensure projects are sufficiently resourced to meet key deadlines and milestones;
- Identifies, investigates, and administers WMATA Systems functionality and efficiency vs current trends and technologies. Communicates regularly with WMATA’s operating units to uncover design project needs and develop projects in conformance with WMATA’s unique requirements;
- Assist in the oversight of phase coordination activities for engineering design projects to establish schedule priorities, access requirements and allocation of work areas for each contract affected, while minimizing fiscal impacts by exercising maximum control and assuring that work is positioned to be performed in a manner to meet the scheduled completion dates;
- Coordinate with the project team, contractors, consultants, and Digital Modernization department to support the project development and implementation process throughout the project lifecycle;
- Perform additional assignments as directed by the WMATA Task Manager.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or related field;
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the field of engineering;
- Working knowledge of engineering requirements, program policies, and procedures by which the Authority is governed, including OSHA, and security related requirements as it pertains to WMATA’s portfolio of existing and proposed infrastructure. Specific experience with preparing drawings that adhere to the various code requirements for all disciplines of federal, state, and local jurisdictions is required;
- Extensive experience with all Microsoft Office applications;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Experience performing quality control checks; and
- Ability to clearly and professionally communicate both verbally and written.
- Experience using CAD software (AutoCAD and Revit) preferred
- Familiarity with WMATA standard processes and procedures preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) preferred
