The Senior Systems Engineer supports IPTs, Working Groups, Tiger Teams, or other groups by participating and using engineering knowledge, judgment, and expertise to develop / evaluate solutions, generate recommendations, and / or plans of action to resolve the issue. The Engineer should be motivated, team-oriented, and able to interface with customers with the ability to work on multiple projects at once and understand shifting priorities.

  • Assists in the development and review of program technical and mission documentation (e.g., Operational Requirements, Systems Concept Paper, Concept of Operations, Training Plans, Capabilities & Limitations), providing input and advice on engineering and technical issues and ensuring engineering requirements are met.
  • Participates in the development and design of new systems by assessing if available or imminent technology is sufficient to meet requirements or if system concepts are applicable to fleet operational requirements.
  • Develops project planning objectives for engineering development of current and future programs.
  • Integrates cost estimates with program plans (schedules, development requirements, test and evaluation requirements, etc.) into a total acquisition plan.
  • Develops engineering specifications which define system requirements and parameters.
  • Assists logisticians in the preparation, planning, and development of integrated logistics support plans for assigned systems.
  • Provides input to T&E personnel in the planning and development of the Test and Evaluation Master Plans with regard to engineering and technical requirements and procedures.
  • Develops systems engineering management plans and coordinates with field activity tasks concerning the technical aspects of the program.
  • Evaluates and / or guides Engineering Change Proposals and variance development, review, and / or approval.
  • Participates in aircraft or system integration projects for weapons within the PMA portfolio.

Requirements

  • At least ten (10) years of recent and relevant experience in an engineering position, three (3) of which must be directly related to naval systems. Demonstrated knowledge in the area of engineering expertise is required.
  • MS or MA degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related scientific discipline. Allowable substitution : A BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related scientific discipline and an additional four (4) years of recent and relevant experience may be substituted for a MS or MA degree. These four (4) years of experience are in addition to the required minimum of ten (10) years to meet the “Experience” requirements below, therefore, requiring a total of fourteen (14) years of experience.
  • Understanding and ability to execute tasks associated with NAVAIR’s Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR), Engineering Change Proposal (ECP), Configuration Management and Airworthiness / Cybersafe processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and application of critical thinking to solve problems.
  • Proficient with MS Office products.
  • Self-sufficient, motivated, and proactive.
  • Ability to work independently with little guidance.
  • Active Secret clearance.
