Job Summary
Work is performed for the Facilities & General Services Department and involves the performance of semiskilled work in the operation of equipment and in the performance of manual work associated with the maintenance of county buildings and grounds, rights-of-ways, roads, ditches, and other county properties and infrastructure.
- Operates listed equipment to perform duties to include but not limited to cutting grass
- Operates a trash compactor truck, picking up trash and emptying trash receptacles in various parks and at county facilities.
- Operates street sweeper, skid steer, tractor, mowing, small garbage truck, and other construction and maintenance equipment.
- Operates small equipment including but not limited to weed eater, edger, chain saw, pole saw, hedge trimmer and blower. (Assigned inmates, when available, will perform these duties. If inmates are not available then employee is responsible for performing these duties.)
- Performs routine maintenance on equipment as specified by the equipment manufacturer or as directed by the supervisor that includes but not limited to daily checks on engine oil, transmission fluid, filters and coolant fluid as well as other maintenance to include but not limited to oil changes, filter replacement, changing blade and replacing belts and greasing. (Assigned inmates, when available, will assist in the performance of these duties. If inmates are not available then employee is responsible for performing these duties.)
- Supervises assigned laborers or inmates in the course of daily operations to ensure work assigned is performed.

Qualifications and Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Driver's License
- Working knowledge of various types of equipment
- Six months on the job training or technical heavy equipment operation training.
- Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is mostly performed outdoors operating equipment. Subject to extreme weather conditions. Exposure to fumes from exhaust on equipment. Exposure to high noise levels.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work in generally medium in nature involving sitting, standing, walking, bending, operating equipment, with moderate amounts of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs.
