What are the responsibilities and job description for the CDS (Community Day Services) Program Developmental Services Trainer (DSP) position at Shelby County Community Services, Inc.?
This position is supervised by the Community Day Service Program Coordinator and/or Community Day Service (CDS) Instructor (as assigned by the Coordinator) and is responsible for direct service/supervision of the Community Day Service Program clients. This position is responsible for assisting with the planning and implementing of client activities/training in a combination of the following CDS client areas of development: Adult Daily Living Skills, Work Activities, Speech/Language/Communication, Motor Development, Recreation and Leisure Skills.
This position requires that applicant is a currently certified DSP. This position will also require a valid driver's license as driving a passenger van/lift van will also be required. Training will be provided by employer.
Duties and responsibilities
· Shall participate in the implementation of the CDS Program Strategies as specified in each individual’s Personal Care Plan and complete documentation as required.
· Shall participate in the development of and implementation of Client Behavior Programs.
· Shall notify CDS Program Coordinator/Instructor of any unmet client needs.
· Shall attend Staff Meetings, training and workshops/sessions to maintain, refine and/or develop those skills necessary to continue the competent and professional delivery and supervision of needed services.
· Shall maintain/submit accurate timely reporting and documenting of daily activities, client progress, etc., as assigned.
· Shall relate to individuals, clients, agencies, the community, guardianship, etc., in an effective manner. Shall be friendly, courteous, cooperatively and service oriented.
· Shall work cooperatively and professionally with all agency staff on a consistent basis.
· Shall represent this agency in a positive and professional manner.
· Shall comply with/follow all Agency/CDS Policies and Procedures.
· Shall accept and adapt to unscheduled changes in routine(s), rules, regulations, procedures, etc., in a positive and consistently competent professional manner.
· Shall be held responsible for being and remaining familiar with, and conducting herself/himself in full compliance with the State of Illinois Mental Health Code and Confidentiality Act (1997) and its current/future revisions.
· . Shall assist in developing and implementing special client recreational activities with other staff and with parent/volunteer groups (as applicable). i.e. community outings, Special Olympic training/events, seasonal parties, etc.
· Shall assist in keeping the CDS Program area assigned clean, attractive and safe. The environment should also be one that promotes client learning and be age appropriate.
· Shall assist with planning and implementing activities in your assigned areas of development.
· Shall assist the CDS Instructor (when required) with conducting and documenting a monthly client meeting.
· Shall assume responsibility, as assigned, for CDS client work quality control, the recording of daily production, participation in job analysis and time studies, and the completion of daily client time sheets.
· Shall assist with training new CDS DSPs when required.
· Shall be responsible for assisting in the supervision of clients in the event of an evacuation, illness, accident, etc., following the Safety Program Procedures.
· Shall perform/complete any other duties and/or responsibilities deemed necessary by the CDS Coordinator and/or Executive Director which are not mentioned above.
Qualifications
Shelby County resident preferred.
- Must be a certified DSP and be on the IDPH registry for this
- Ability and knowledge to train/assist with independent living/care-giving skills and recreational/educational activities.
- Ability and willingness to address unscheduled emergency job responsibilities during non-work/personal time in a positive manner.
- Must be able to accept and adapt to unscheduled changes in routine(s), rules, regulations, procedures, etc., in a positive and consistently competent professional manner.
- Sincere commitment to confidentiality and quality human service delivery.
- Have or be willing and able to obtain First Aid and CPR Cards.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and must be able to provide own transportation to and from work. Must provide proof of adequate personal vehicle insurance.
- Must be willing to drive vans/participate in van training in order to transport CDS individuals to and from activities as well as to CDS and back home.
- Ability and willingness to represent Shelby County Community Services, Inc. in a positive and neighborly manner within the immediate neighborhood, community, and Shelby County.
- Must relate to individuals, clients, agencies, the community, etc., in a positive, tactful, and effective manner. Be friendly, courteous, cooperative and service oriented.
- Must be able to work cooperatively and professionally with all agency staff on a consistent basis.
- Agrees to attend staff meetings, training and in-service workshops/sessions to maintain, refine and/or develop those skills necessary to continue the competent and professional delivery of needed services.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in a correct, consistent and understandable manner.
- Shall give written consent authorizing the release of specific information concerning prior employment performance/status, educational/training records, prior criminal records from any Federal, State and/or Law Enforcement Department or Agency, including the opinions of the above representatives regarding character, and/or reputation in his/her community.
- Must be able to pass the Illinois Health Care Workers Background Check and CANTs initially and annually.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment as well as random drug screenings
Requirements
At least 18 years of age.
- Be a Certified DSP through IDPH
- Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly and concisely.
- Strong communication skills to work with various members of staff and management.
- Flexible to schedule changes.
- Ability to pass extensive background check.
Physical requirements
- Requires the use of both arms and both hands with full range of motion
- Must be able to bend at the waist and knees, twist, push and pull on an occasional basis.
- Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to kneel, squat, and climb as needed.
- Must be able to reach overhead and away from the body.
- Must be able to walk and stand for at least 90% of the time.
