What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant A (Circuit Court Clerk) position at Shelby County Government?
Position Summary
Works under general supervision to assist in the agency's accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable, budget forecasting, and other general accounting functions.
Pay Grade: 53
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
1. Three (3) years of experience in the use of accounting principles, techniques, and theories; AND
2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or related field; OR
3. An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Maintains and reconciles the general ledger.
2. Reconciles credit cards monthly.
3. Completes bank reconciliation each month.
4. Reconciles and generates month-end reports for Commission and Fees, State of TN sales tax, and departmental reports.
5. Reports Unclaimed Funds yearly to the State of Tennessee.
6. Manages minor investment accounts.
7. Posts journal entries to proper general ledger accounts.
8. Completes annual reports for year-end audit.
9. Oversees auditors during the annual external audit.
10. Makes weekly bank runs to open new minor investment accounts and close minor investment accounts.
11. Supervises all aspects of the Accounting and Child Support departments, including implementing policies and procedures.
12. Reviews vendor invoices for funding and proper approval according to the budget.
13. Participates in interviews for the accounting department.
14. Gives annual evaluations to accounting department employees.
15. Corrects and submitting payroll for the department.
16. Performs other duties to support the department and other operational functions throughout the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.
KSA's
1. Knowledge of accounting theory and practices and auditing procedures.
2. Knowledge of budgeting, fiscal management, and purchasing procedures.
3. Ability to prepare and maintain a system of detailed accounting records.
4. Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating decisions and situations and preparing information.
5. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
6. Ability to work with co-workers and public citizens with courtesy and tact.
7. Ability to operate all office machines, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
