Position Summary
Develops and implements counseling programs to supervise the work of assigned counselors and to counsel individual groups.
Pay Grade: 45
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
1. Two (2) years’ experience as a counselor or social worker in a criminal justice/institutional setting, or in a program management and/or program development setting; AND
2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, sociology, counseling, social work, criminal justice or a closely related area; OR
3. An equivalent combination of related education, training and/or experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides supervision and service to staff and institutionalized offenders.
2. Lectures, facilitates counseling groups and monitors counseling sessions.
3. Works with various related agencies and exchanges information as required.
4. Directs, trains and evaluates counselor effectiveness.
5. Reviews and discusses data related to counselor effectiveness.
6. Organizes and leads group discussion to accommodate group needs.
7. Develops and maintains facility’s program matrix, schedule and other activities, as assigned.
8. Prepares the completion of monthly and quarterly reports.
9. Maintains and updates all program files, forms spreadsheets, documents and reports.
10. Collects and analyzes program statistical data and develops and implement changes.
11. Monitors approved curriculum-based programs.
12. Makes recommendations to Manager for improvements, modifications and possible training.
13. Assists with training facility on program development and compliance.
14. Performs other duties as required or directed.

1. Ability to establish and maintain meaningful rapport with co-workers, agencies and inmates.
2. Ability to evaluate data, investigate incidents and write reports as required.
3. Ability to prepare reports, proficient in the use of Microsoft suites (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
4. Ability to compose general correspondences, writes and type documents for a variety of needs.
5. Ability to supervise a diverse staff and facilitate their working together as a cohesive team.
6. Ability to work under pressure in a prison environment and function professionally as a team member.
7. Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and effectively, verbally and written.
8. Skilled in organizing work, setting priorities and monitoring details.
9. Ability to recognize symptoms of behavioral, mental and substance abuse disorders.
Special Requirements
1. Must be able to function in a prison environment.
2. Must be able to work shift evening and on weekends if required.
3. Will be required to pass drug testing and TB screening.
