What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Resources Assistant (Sheriff) position at Shelby County Government?
Position Summary
Assist in planning, carrying out, and evaluating Human Resources activities.
Pay Grade: 42
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
1. Two (2) years' experience in human resources; AND
2. Two (2) years of college study from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, management, or a closely related field; OR
3. An equivalent combination of related education, and/or experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Schedules pre-employment physicals and drug screenings. Communicates with candidates during the pre-employment process as needed and provides information pertaining to test schedules and interviews.
2. Assists in administrative personnel transactions i.e., hires, transfers, separations, etc. Compiles information required for employee investigations, unemployment, etc.
3. Processes bi-monthly payroll for a division of approximately 2,100 employees. Maintains payroll records.
4. Communicates with Shelby County Finance, Payroll, and HR Administrative Offices to ensure payroll justifications are processed within required timeframes.
5. Processes requested changes to employee personnel records e.g. W-4, direct deposit, name, and address changes. Performs data entry.
6. Screens applications for mass public safety processes.
7. Performs other related duties as required or directed.
KSAs
1. Knowledge of administrative and clerical functions and procedures.
2. Knowledge of organizational, financial, purchasing, and/or personnel management techniques.
3. Knowledge of Shelby County programs, policies, services, and related federal, state, and local programs.
4. Ability to create and/or present oral and/or written reports that concisely and effectively communicate findings and ideas.
Special Requirements
1. Must be able to work a flexible schedule which could include early morning and late evening hours with minimal notice.
2. Must be able to report to work at various locations within Shelby County during special events/projects with minimal notice.
3. Must have a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one upon date of employment.
4. Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon the date of employment.
