What are the responsibilities and job description for the Miscellaneous Temp - Foreman I - Vector Control (Health Services) position at Shelby County Government?
Position Summary
Performs mosquito abatement under supervision to reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
Pay Grade: 42H
Minimum Qualifications
1. Two (2) years of experience on-the-job or formal training in pest, mosquitoes, or vector control; AND
2. High school diploma or a GED.
3. PROOF OF EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develops a knowledge of mosquito identification, basic mosquito biology, and control.
2. Performs duties as part of an integrated pest management approach to mosquito control.
3. Completes daily work records and prepares operational reports as required.
4. Trains, assigns duties, and evaluates crew members assisting in operations.
5. Drives and maintains the assigned vehicle.
6. Assures operations performed are in compliance with the county’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.
7. Assures a high level productivity and efficiency of work activities.
8. Assures that all policies and procedures are followed.
9. Performs maintenance of ditches and natural waterways using small tools and power equipment, i.e., shovels, picks, weed eaters, brush cutters, handheld sprayers, etc.
10. Removes and trims vegetation along ditches and natural waterways.
11. Clears, maintains, and/or digs soil, trash, and objects to improve drainage ditches and natural waterways.
12. Performs other related duties as required or directed.
KSAs
1. Knowledge of the use of hand tools and power equipment used in vector control work and their proper maintenance, e.g., shovels, picks, weed eaters, brush cutters, and handheld sprayers.
2. Knowledge of the names and composition of insecticides as well as their modes of action in killing mosquitoes.
3. Knowledge of mosquito diversity, biology, and ecology.
4. Ability to physically perform assigned tasks.
5. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
6. Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and the public.
7. Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and effectively.
8. Ability to identify common mosquito pests and vectors by eye in the field.
9. Ability to read and understand pesticide labels and vector control program policies and procedures.
Special Requirements
1. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one by the date of employment.
2. Must be able to work shifts, weekends, and on-call.
Physical Requirements
1. Must be able to push/pull and/or lift lower objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
2. Must be able to walk on uneven ground, ascend and descend steep inclinations, stoop, squat, crawl, and perform other physical duties as required.
3. Must be able to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
